Exhaust - Options.

My car needs a new backbox. The Mk3 Cupra one I have on is really on its last legs. It is just the backbox I need, but I doubt Im going to find another Mk3 Cupra one.

So what do people suggest?? Going to try and get it asap while I still have unlimited overtime at work.

I was wondering that myself tbh. I know theres a part number on the backbox but I cant get under the car to have a look due to the weather and it being dark

Couldnt tell you tbh as I got the whole exhaust from cat back. Well had to get alittle bit of pipe made up for between the cat and centre box.

Hope I can get hold of another mk3 back box, dont want anything else .

I'm sure I've read on here that the 16v pipe diameter is the same as the 1.8T pipe. But don't quote me on that!

2.0 16v and Mk3 20VT exhaust are the same diameter. I fitted one to mine from the cat back in August.

Center Section Part no. 6KL253409A rrp £115.15 + VAT
TPS Discount approx 15% = £97.88
Had Magnex on before and in my opinion this is far better.
I had to heat up and bend the front bracket on the back box to suit the existing body hanger bracket, appart from that, went straight on with no rattles.

i have a custom crome racing cat back system with a 3.5 inch tip and the noise is just annoying so im going to give the mk3 back box with my straight through centre pipe ago

You don't have to be in trade, lads at my local TPS really helpfull, will order parts without payment.

Isnt one of those TPS places near me. Think it will be a trip to the dealer for a new one. Dont want anything else but a 20vT backbox. Think I will give the new one a coat of that zinc exhaust paint stuff.

Sorry to drag up an old thread up I need some help. I gave the above part number for the 20vt backbox for my garage to order from that TPS place, the exhaust came but it is totally different. Phoned them again and gave that part number and nothing came back. Asked for the exhaust without the part number and came back at £238 for just the backbox. So now Im confused.

Also do you know if the exhaust comes with the chrome tailpipes when you buy it new or are they like a trim thats fitted on??

i have no idea on ur above mate, but is there a local motorfactor near u? SDL or someone like that, they supply the back boxes and id imagine considerably less then the dealers charge, ive got a 1.4s and today fitted a new bakbox and centere silencer cost me £45.13 including vat for the two but i now just realised i should have bought a cupra bak box for it now

Here is the part number for the 20vt back box, it comes with the twin chrome tailpipe.
Here is the number for TPS in Newcastle - 0191 2723300.
Ring them to check the price and that it is definatley the part you are after.
They are very helpfull and should be able to send it you by carrier.
This fit my 1998 16 valver, though I did renew the centre section too. Also, as I said before, a little modification is required on the front hanger of the box to suit.

I think it is now sorted mate. The garage phoned yesterday and they said the backbox was £238 + VAT. But I think that they got the dealers price instead.

Ive already had the 20vt backbox on. Im needing to replace it as it is on its last legs. I hope the right part is sent this time.
