Hey guys!

I have a query...
When cruzing alone in the CupraR in 3rd or 4th at about 50-60mph,i can hear a knocking noise coming from the engine!its when i put my foot down alittle bit to build the speed from 50-60 mph,has anyone heard of this happening before??i think i does it in most gears! :(

I have only had the car a week 2morrow,its a 05,27000 miles

Thanks..... Wayne

i have that problem aswell i think its the heat sheild 4r the exaust which is t he problem , its only when u put the foot down i guess ?

Seriously not a good noise.
Was this noise there when you test drove the car?
Did you ask the seller about it?
I'd stop driving the car and get it checked out ASAP

No it wasn't there when I bought the car. I'll ring the VW dealership today where I bought it from and ask them to take a look.

I noticed a clicking sound coming from my engine only heard it though, when was stood still,
got the garage to take a look, and it was supposedly, if i remember the name right charcoal collector? supposedly help lower emissions. Had it checked was working fine, seemed quieter though after they messed with it, could be that perhaps??

Thats the charcoal canister, its there to recycle the emissions on tick over to reduce pollution. Unfornunately this is not this mans problem as its out of the system when driving.
I think cupraR lad has a bigger fish to fry

Well i have a vibrating noice cuming from the bottem ov my car when i put the foot down , i doesnt do it when its sitting only when im driving with the footdown , and i took it into a garage and they said it was the heat sheild , sorry i couldnt help .. hope it gets sorted asap!

With the engine turned off and the bonnet open grab the top of the engine and try shaking it back and forwards, see if you can hear the knocking. Have a look at the engine mounts (big round things, usually three) That will tell you if one of the engine mounts has gone.

Also try the wings, rocking the car, see if you can hear the sound, could be one of the rubber bushes on suspension etc.

After above id listen to the engine on tickover also with bonnet open and have a look and listen around the engine.

i think it is the tappets then mate but i havnt heard many people with seats have that problem , your best bet is go 2 a garage 4r a quick look!

Tappet noise is a little unusual on a VW, ive had two SEATS and one Golf and never had that issue.

The tappets are self adjusting, noisy tappets usually means lack of oil getting to them, so maybe check your oil level, and also the condition of the oil on the dipstick, and pop off the oil filler cap and look inside, the oil should be fluid.

After replacing the gasket on the valve cover i discovered that on top of the tappets is a plastic cover, might be possible for this to come slightly loose, but again without taking the cover off difficult to know.

Actually didnt notice how new it is!

Did you buy from a dealer? if so take it back and ask if they will go out in the car with you and ask them for advice, if its something small they should be able to fix it.

you hear from alot of people that have the car serviced and something has not been done
