i'm moving place of work on Monday, from 5 miles from my house, to 30 miles from my house....

and i'm actually looking forward to driving 60 miles a day to see what the beast is capable of. I'm going to drive like im on a driving lesson.

all but about 3 miles is dual carriageway too, so i'll report back in a few weeks!

was sittin just below a 3/4 tank and now sittin on half tank and olny done about 30 miles, yeah 30 MILES, absolutely shocking! i think i have a more serious problem than i first thought, my brother is going to check the sensor which calculates the fuel meter to see if its broken or faulty, i am also awaiting a K&N cleaning kit to get all the dirt out incase thats causing problems and im also gonna go get some redex again, seemed to help a bit last time!, starting to gett quite pissed off with how the car is going through petrol, would be cheaper off getting a cupra at this rate!

And alot more fun!! :D

I’ve just finished my first week at my new job travelling 30 miles each way, 5 times a week. I filled up last Monday night on way home, and filled up again Tuesday night, 40 litres to fill, and I’d done 440 miles. This works out at 50mpg, which I was quite pleased with. It was mostly economical driving, cruise control at about 60 most of the way, the odd spurt of fun here and there throughout the week.
And I was quite surprised because each journey the car computer had calculated an average of 50-52, (60 one day when it was snowy-slower journey) and people are always saying it’s not very accurate.
I’m going to make it a little game for a few weeks to see if I can get higher MPGs! I’ll be setting off at 4am soon.

I once managed to get from Maidston in Kent through to Meon in Hampshire and only just got the needle of the full gadge, it was terrible weather and there were very few people on the road think its about 100 mile trip but it kept me entertained still I think I only ended up getting 400 to the tank.....

yeah can easily do 100 miles and the needle barely moves, and easily do 250 to the first half a tank - never means you get 250 from the second half though! I'm sure the first half is like 30 litres and the second half only 15 litres!

How much do you put your foot down?

Even in like second, you don't really go anywhere, but you do it anyway?

I used to do it in my swift alot, low rpm foot down, didn't really make any difference atall. Only above 3k rpm it did anything.

I only used to get about 250-300 miles from a 30 or so litre tank? I only go 350 or so on a motorway run?

Maybe really small engines, you drive them a lot harder because the pickup isn't significant??

Edit: I'm rather worried about this though, 60 litre tank 2.0 engine, and only got 31mpg on an A road. (My dad was driving at the time) It says about 25 mpg in town? :-o

I must say from the looks of it, the TDI's are frugal on fuel!

*imagin the engine taking little sips*

well from second half of the tank down to red bar at bottom with fuel light on obviously, i got like 130 miles :(:(:(:(

yeah mines pretty much the same myself, i can just about manage to squeeze 300miles from a full tank if im fairly careful. its weird as sometimes i manage to get near to 100 miles on 1/4 of a tank yet when it gets nearer to the bottom it doesnt. so much for the 1.2 being good for fuel consumption :p still it could be worse i spose

yeh the 1st quarter on a full tank doesnt move for ages but after that its way downhill, and (danneh) yeh i do boot alot in 2nd gear just to get the speed up that bit quicker but its more of a habbit than doing it just here and there, im just used to accelarating quickly as its just tooooo slooooooooow!!!!! haha

Averaged 35mpg on my last tank in my 1.8T... This was driving old man style though!

Is this standard?! I have a 20vt 1.8 remapped. Running really well and performance is good. I only do small trips normally to work and the engine is hardly up to temp being only 5 miles from home and my overall everage on the car is 27.5mpg. However on a reasonable trip (20-25miles) I get 35ish.

So for you to get 35 is good. Unless you do many big trips?
