No just the tint spray can be removed.

The above look a bit pinky to me. When we tinted my mates standard lights they looked fine, the trick is lots of light coats with a few mins in between that way you shouldn't lose the detail of the lights.

My VR lights had a whole can sprayed on them followed by about 5 layers of clear and the detail is still very clear through the paint, should be the same on the standard as they are both made by hella just one has red plastic the other clear.

You will use far less tint spray on the standard lights to give the same results. Tint your standards as a practice!

No its Laquer with a bit of red added, in all honesty the guy went a bit to heavy for my liking. I wanted to keep the detail in the lights but there was no going back once done. I didnt like them at first but they've grown on me. But once everything else is sorted il be doing another pair not so heavy though.

On the plus side with it being laquer and not tinting spray, it has a nice shine (although the picture isnt the best)

can i just check with you!

so i get this (halfords dont sell it anymore :():

http://www.foliatecshop.co.uk/shop/foliatec-rear-light-tint-spray-p-128.html

and something like that for the laquer:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...151_storeId_10001_partNumber_451575_langId_-1

(a spray on clear laquer?? sorry i have no sort of experience messing with paintwork)

then i spray on a few layers....wait for it to completely dry and spray over with laquer? just one coat? then use 1500 grit wet & dry sandpaper and polish up?

Why do i get the feeling im going to royally f**k this up lol

Those are the exact products i used.

Step 1 - Apply light coats of tint allow a few mins to dry between so you can get the level of tint you want and also stops runs.

Step 2 - Once tinted to the level you want leave for the tint to go off fully at least over night in somewhere warm should be ok.

Step 3 - Apply light coats of lacquer allow a few mins to dry between. Apply enough so you have something to sand back and still leave a good covering after. I did about 5 coats.

Step 4 - Again leave to fully go off, then wet and dry to remove the orange peel this will give it the more OEM look.

Step 5 - Now polish back to a glossy finish.

Step 6 -

NB. Use green bulbs in the indicators to make them flash orange again.

Lol you make it sound so easy! How will you know what's the right level of tint? Doesn't it go all cloudy Till you laquer and polish?

As for the consultancy fee, I'm sure some sort agreement can be made over a double cheeseburger next time I bump into you at tidy!

Oh one more thing, how do you remove the lenses from the Hellas? Do I need to pull them apart and reseal?

Its just how dark red you want them as I siad I used a whole can on the VR lights.

As for the lenses I melted them out with a soldering iron, I melted them into 4 then pulled them out, takes a while.

will 1500 grit be ok? As halfords only had that or do I need 2000 as well? And do I need to buy any finishing pads? Is it just a case of applying some autoglym polish and polishing away to the finish?

The finer the grade the easier it will be to polish up, you will probably need something with a bit more cut than SRP. I would start with something thats fairly heavy cut then drop down to a fine polish to bring out the glossyness.

If you want when they are done give me a shout and bring them up and we can do it using my van full of stuff!

Guys (C3 LJG especially), this thread has been a lifesaver, I think I would have completly arsed up the paint jo bif i were left to my own devices.

Just one problem, I've got my paint/lacquer/fresh set of lights, tried them on today (and although I thought it'd never happen to me, one of the bolts did fall down the back of the car lol). Anyway, I've been searching for about a day now, I can't find any green indicator bulbs, do you guys know where I should be looking?

I managed to source mine off eBay ( you need 382's)

As for the bolts, I'm down two now, was screwing when I managed to drop them, I'm prob going to pop to the dealers and get some as I have a number of other bits to get

Not yet, I had a set ready to polish that I put on the car and my local mechanic managed to scratch it so I've taken it back ad started again, now I'm waiting on more spray to arrive. Once c3ljg does his finishing touches I'll get some pics up :)

Guys I managed to spray the lights last weekend, it looks alright (granted it still isn't lacquered/polished) but I've run into a little problem.

I've bought the green bulbs to make the indicators flash orange, and although they do for the most part, you can still see some green light through the red tint, which I think is due to the way the reflective surface inside the light is shaped.

Did you guys run into the problem, or has anyone got any idea on how I can go about getting rid of the green showing through?
