I have an 08 altea XL and have 2 young children. What I want to be able to do is lock the car if i go to the shops leaving the children inside but not have the alarm go off? Any ideas what i can do to make this happen?

why not just tell you kids not to move, that way the alarm wont function, or chain them to the outside of the car.

Look on the Drivers B pillar. you should have a button on it to disable the motion sensors

Press the lock button on the remote twice. The second press de-activates the deadlocks and interior sensors.

You beat me to it!!

If you leave anyone in the car you should take off the deadlock... otherwise they can't get out if you need to!!! (As much as you may want this with your kids, the missus might not be too happy :p)

Also, taking off deadlock disables internal sensors, and leaves you with no alarm going off :)

Also when you unlock the car with the remote - don't wait too long before you get put the key in the ignition incase the automatic locking comes on.

I usually fill up when I'm on my own and lock to car every time and now it's a habit. Last time I had a mate with me and locked the car out of habit but realised and unlocked it again. When I came to pay for the diesel I heard the alarm and looked to see it was my car and my mate was not looking too happy with me. The auto locking came had come on because I hadn't put my key in the ignition soon enought after unlocking it.

The autolocking works if you don't open a door within 60 seconds of locking the car, not putting the key in the ignition.

It's in case you accidentally unlock the car when you put your keys in your pocket or something.
