Cambs
Since i bought my car last year i have always found the cd changer in the glove box extremely unreliable. If i put a new cd in its like a 70-30% chance it will say 'error' and not work.
Also if i change cd's during a song there's a chance it wil say 'error' and not work.

Is the cd changer just not exactly seat's strong point, or could mine be a dodgy one?
Anyone else had these problems.

Loads of people have. They don't tend to last long. Personally I took mine out, got the glove space and put a decent 12 disc mp3 changer in the boot. Didn't really have to do that as I didn't realise the new headunit had a mp3 disc slot and USB slot. It was kept from my previous car. So 13x MP3 CD's and a 8GB USB stick for music

It does seem a bit crummy. My car is a 01 plate so for being 8 years old i suppose its ok.
I just cant make adjustments to anything when its playing a cd. lol

Mine is a bit hit and miss as well, wont always play Cd's. But as you say not a supprise for a 6 or 7 year old CD player. I've never had a Cd player last more than 5 years even in the house. Doe's look like the dash will take any standard Halfords sound system unlike the Mk2 leon where it seems to be all part of the dash moulding.

mine is the same cd unit comes up error when i put in new cd's and now the volume on the head unit goes off but stereo is on  so new head unit it needed.

Mines still going strong since new :D

It plays anything I chuck at it.

But I got a free upgrade from new to an 8-disc Panasonic cd changer (didn't ask for it), so I guess it's more reliable than the std unit?

Its a pain to get 7 & 8 discs though as you only get to upto no.6 directly.

Hi folks
Yeh mine is driving me mad and has been since I got it. Errors on 4 5 out of 6 of the slots, doesn't read hardly anything.

We're in 09 and no need for them anymore. Wanna get rid of mine and run a new i pod ready system, with i pod in glove box type thing.

Does anyone know if you can get a standard glove box without it all built in like mine?? Leon Mk1's are a bit short of storage inside without that thing in the way. Suggestions on a good system gratefully accepted too. Heard there's a German make that has a dispay that matched the Mk1 dash if ya really fussy.

i have the standard cd radio and 6 disc changer, and i haven't had any problems..
although i've probably gone and jinxed it now :p

I had the same unit (not the same actual unit, just the same spec'd unit) in a Golf V5, an Audi S3 and my Leon with no issues from any of them!

Some good some bad then by the sounds of it...
Still not sure if I'm unlucky or there dodgy.

After my remap this Fri the CD changer is all that annoys me so think I'll take mine out and use i-pod.

If your glove box cd changer is playing up and not loading discs and says error then there are some plastic guides inside the changer that need cleaning. They are easy to get at through were you put the magazine. All you need is a cotton bud cleaning stick with a bit of solvent to them.It will be dirt that causes the discs not to load properly.

I'll try that as im sure many others will! :)

mine doesnt play cds from a pc (cd-rw cd-r) not sure if thats right? i'm on my secont as the first was a warranty job. so far the new one has only said 'error' 1647387548475847 times

Alot of car cd players cant play cd rw discs that you use on a pc,but you should be ok with cd r discs.

Mine is the same, plays up all the time recently.. I have 2 cassettes, and 1 works alot better than the other for some reason ...

Is it possible to hook up an iPhone to a headunit and use it for calls aswell while its all plugged in??
