ECU postal tuning

Anyone on here heard of Custom tuning.co.uk, based in South Yorkshire?

They offer a £95 postal remap for the 1.8T which claims to boost power to about 216bhp on a standard 1180bhp engine.

ANy comments would be very helpful, good and bad...

Not much shows up for 'em...

The website for them was only setup at the end of last year, so they are new to mapping or new to the internet... Also a quote from there website below:

"How can somebody who has no mechanical knowledge tune your vehicle to the highest possible standard if they don’t understand the components they are changing?
Our technicians have a combined 25 years experience in the electronics industry and are more than qualified to work with any modern ECU or electronic components. Our head technician is second to none when it comes to the electronics side of things."

So they talk about needing mechanical knowledge, but then say the have electrical experiance, not quite the same.

Also on the site the price is £175 (or higher).

Have you done any research on 'em yet, found out anything ???

you want more than 1180bhp?

could be ok but removing the ecu/posting/handling and then refitting and nobody to sort it out if theres problems?
or pay more, get a dyno read out , the correct map, backed up by shed loads of VAG 1.8t experience and plenty of advice on how to make your car better (or spend more ). you usually get a coffee too.
my main tuner got chosen because of their experience and how approachable/friendly they were if things went wrong.

I think most people would trust their expensive ECU with someone with a proven track record.

I'd certainly suggest spending a little more and visit someone with experience on SEAT's, who is there to make sure everything is fine.

If your car is disabled when your newly remapped ECU arrives, what are you going to do?

I appreciate what your saying, but my question was "has anyone had any dealings with this company?" (or words to that effect)

Anyone?? Even just pre purchase phone calls...

the answer is in the silence

with the tuners who use this forum the maps are very sound. if theres post mapping issues its usually very worn componants such as maf, temp sensors, coil packs boost leaks ect. the tuners all carry diagnostic kit so can more often than not sort it on the spot.

only time ive heard of a map being at fault was a guy who had ended up with a k03s map on a k03 turbo`d cupra. not sure who mapped it but they presumed they were the same.

you could try searching on briskoda, ukmivs and the various audi forums.. see if anyones used them.

There is a thread below on briskskoda where some guy basically sent his ECU to them and he's had a nightmare as it mucked his ECU up and stranded him.

There are other postal remap companies (such as ECU evolution in Ross on Wye) that offer the same price, but their maps are excellent, and their aftersales service is second to none...

it will just remove the fuel cut and change's ignition timing, there not very good as they're based on all lc , and everyones is different and has different mods so i would wait get the performance parts u want and go custom remap .

Hard to compare the service if getting before and after dyno plots with locals to you such as JKM... no need to remove the ecu, no danger of ecu damage through postal handling and if youve a problem they will spot it and sort it quickly... they have the tools and experience.

How will a postal mapping outlet know to tell you the maps not working due to a dying maf? How would they tell?

Im all for saving pennies but its not worth the aggravation should it go wrong imo.

the basic faults can be tested easily for instance, maf can be tested by unplugging it and seeing if car performs better unplugged.

if it does maf is either dirty or knackered!

how are you going to test for boost leaks, n75 faults, coil packs,temp senders ect?
