Using SEAT Dealer for 1st Service?

Hi All,
Been doing some shopping around and looks like the stealers charge about £180 for first 10K service on a cupra. I have also looked at some tuners/sports car specialists who also say they can do the work (all of which will be to the designated warrnaty and SEAT standards)

Prices from the specialists seem to be around £200 so not much in price but I am leaning toward the specialists as think they likely to dedicate a bit more TLC to the service and also have a better understanding/recommendations for any minor concerns NOT shown up on diagnostics.

Secondly on my last car (FR) I wasnt too impressed with my local stealers.

Will a non-SEAT service history affect 2nd hand value do you think. My main view would be if it's got a FSH that shouldn't matter?

Lastly, sorry to waffle, the garage I am considering will also do a revo for me and therefore feel best kept with them as they know what has been done

I don't think dealer FSH or FSH in general makes any difference. From a part ex point of view FSH doesn't matter (when I did a deal on the Cupra the Celica was due a service and the waiting time 7 weeks took it well past).

Privately people will look for FSH though, some people might be put off by it not being main dealer.

Dealer servicing gives you the advantage that SEAT may contribute for any faults occurring outside warranty. But I'm sure the service from a specailist will be better.

I paid about £160 last July for the first service on the Cupra but have read on here people have got it for a lot less than that.
 
I don't yet have my FR (still waiting, dang it!) but experiences with my Golf have made me want to avoid main dealers. VW Nottingham failed to diagnose some faults that were picked up and fixed cheaply by a local independent recommended to me by a friend - Bob Sherwin VW in Clifton. Also, the main dealer had a dodgy attitude: they were good at sending automated form letters saying my service with them was due... but couldn't actually keep an appointment, answer the phone in a timely manner or talk to me about my concerns with the car. All pretty basic stuff that you would think are essential to running a business offering any kind of service.

My new car is going to be my first car that still has any kind of warranty, so I'd also be interested to know if getting it serviced at a non-main-dealer will affect the warranty in any way. Don't mean to hijack your thread but my query is along the same lines, eh? ;)

No worries about hijacking, just interested in solicitoring opinion :)

Being from Nottingham as well the nearest SEAT dealer is at Willoughbys in Chilwell. I didnt find them particularly helpful when I had my FR serviced there, hence the reluctance to go back again with my K1.

My only concern I guess is having them maintain it through warranty period in case any faults but as I said earlier I think apart from the standard stuff like an oil change and brakes they struggle especially if the computer doesnt tell them there is a fault!! :)

Thinking the same as you to be honest Fella.

My K1 isnt due for it's 1st Service till December.. But having read up on KINGS Seat dealers being awful .. im looking at taking the car to JKM. Havent fully looked into prices though just yet, but do feel i will get more care for the car going to JKM than Seat dealers!

Ted Johnson charged me around £125 for first service, and less for the next two services. Nice One..

I only use the dealerships for servicing to keep up the warranty. Once it's over 3 years, it'll be going to a independent, but every time I need anything looked at up until then, I'll be taking it to Ted Johnson/Huddersfield Seat. Otherwise, what would have been the point in buying a new car with the warranty in the first place? I realise EU law means you can take it anywhere, but I'm sure Seat are much easier to deal with with regard to claims if they can see the entire life of the car on their dealerships books. I may be wrong, but it keeps my mind at ease.

Btw my first service was £120, 2nd was £140 or similar - £180 seems very dear.

A non-SEAT service history wont affect 2nd hand value. Values are obtained go by the book (Glass) based on a cars condition mileage and if it has been serviced, and possibly by specific expensive options like leather seats or sat nav but the value of a car 2nd hand is ultimately dictated by the buyer.

My car is worth no more with the Aero skirts and spoiler than one without and its worth no less than a car with Bluetooth that everyone on here raves about. Options and servicing at a main dealer really makes little no/difference to a cars value it seems.

I had my first service done at SEAT and the second one done at VW through my mate as it was £100 cheaper. Still got the receipt, the stamp and the correct VAG parts were used.

I'm with you on that one, I personally don't take the risk and I have known goodwill gestures in the past for cars outside warranty with FSH. No necessarily getting work done free of charge but at a significant discount, where you only pay a minor contibution to the cost.

I know its not just around the corner but Wiltshire's at Farnham is a damn good, family run dealership and well worth the trip. Barry Wiltshire runs the place and what he doesn't know about SEAT isn't worth knowing.

A non-franchise stamp in the service book is better than none but as a dealer I can tell you categorically that not having full franchise service history does affect the value detrimentally particularly now that we're using the ETKA system meaning we can access service/warranty records for the car regardless of which dealer it was worked on by.

Sure I only paid about £90 for my first service from Midland VW - Top guys!!!

Just checked and I was right, my local Seat dealer wanted £220 so got a nice saving and a much better service, after we hucked up VAG-COM and played about with a couple of settings to change a few things that were doing my head in. Turn the seatbelt warning off, Disable rear wiper etc.

In fact it's going back to Midland VW for it's 20k service just as soon as I her it back from the dealers for a broken gearbox mount.

If you don't mind a small trip to Derby, GK Seat are alot more helpful/friendly than Willoughby's and their prices are also cheaper ;)

As for 'specialists' there are a couple in the area - Autotech in Stapleford, Sportstech in Ilkeston, C&R in Lenton (very expensive though)

Also heard good things about Bob Sherwin in Clifton (as also mentioned in an above post) ;)
 
I did my first service at SEAT thought it was important to at least do the first one , but all other services will now be done at AmD , i wont pay dealer prices for a spotty oik to cross thread bolts , leave caps off and damage my car !.
