1.9TDi engine dead

Afternoon all,

Not posted in a long time because the car has been running - relatively- sweet however had a major problem yesterday.

Was on the motorway when the car lost all power and emitted a large puff of black smoke.
I managed to get the car over to the hard shoulder and attempted to restart the engine, it was turning over but just wouldn't kick into life and a lot of white smoke was coming out the exhaust.

Longer story shortened - car got towed home by the AA and my mechanic took a quick look last night at the turbo as this was his first idea on what might be wrong however he said the turbo appears to be fine, a tiny tiny crack on it but not anything near enough to be causing a problem like this. The exhaust flexi pipe appeared to have oil on it and this was burning off causing a fair bit of smoke in the engine bay.

He is coming back to take a look at it later today, however I just wanted to check if anybody had any ideas on what might be the problem to attempt to narrow down on what we are looking at.

I had a quick look through other threads so apologizes if this is something covered before but I couldn't see anything totally relevant.

Thanks,
Mark

P.s. Enginge coolant and oil levels were checked and are as expected.

Hey James thanks for the response,

I say night, it was half past 4 - it just felt like night because I had been lazing about the house all day avoiding answering the phone.

He is taking a look at it tomorrow now and is going to check the fuel pump and injectors if the turbo comes back clean - think he was going to mention it to some of the Skoda guys today and see what they say.

Sorry just thought I should update this for any others reading with similar issues.

Turned out my belt had slipped a tooth, mechanics had it up and running again without any major damage, my alternator has since needed replaced but hopefully its ok for a few k now.

Done 77k miles
Last replaced at 62k.

When we stripped it down we found a non vag screw bouncing around.
Belt was checked by some Skoda monkeys who advised me that there was no damage - hopefully.

Ha ha, my neighbour has a Toyota Prius. It just screams ****** everytime I see it, luckily somebody took offence and smashed into the side of it.

I already goto Church so hopefully it will make it to 100k and then I can shell some cash on a BMW and then I will have completed my whole "********" image that all the kids at my work have of me.
