My 05 LCR goes very well but I am not so impressed with the brakes. The ones on my 01 Leon Sport seem much better.

Initial bite is good but they are lacking when braking hard from high speed. The car has done 36k and is on its second set of front pads, these were fitted a seat main dealer.

The brembos are in mint condition so I'm not sure whats wrong.

Any advice or tips would be most appreciated.

What pads are you running?? The fave on here are DS2500.
Expensive but you get what you pay for.

I have OMP road sport pads and they are poo.
 
That is about the point mileage wise for new disks and pads, they may be warn
Have you changed the brake fluid regularly, also may need doing
Could they need bleeding too, some air in the system
 
Is the pedal hard and does it give instant bite? If it is soft or you have to push the pedal towards the floor you could have an air lock and require bleeding (brembos are harder to bleed than other brake calipers and so some mechanics do a bad job).

Otherwise, your pads may have glazed over (for this reason I'm going to be getting my discs grooved next time out), or alternatively you are not getting the pads up to temperature when you need to use them. Have you tried lightly braking and then braking hard to see if that improves?
 
the brake ped is hard and i have tried warming the brakes before i used them fully. initial bite ok so alright round town etc.

think the pads may be glazed, how do i fix this? can take them out a rub them down slightly, how do i get the pads out?

It's to do with the boost pressure against the valve. As my car has been remapped a harder spring is recommended so stop the higher boost leaking through the valve. It also gives a quicker response when you come off the throttle.

However if the spring is too hard (against the level off boost you're running) then it might fail to open properly causing extra stress on the turbo.
 
i have just bought the car and didnt have the pads fitted, i have read the how to gide and can easily get the pads out. can i simply rub them over with some sand paper. i have just fitted the dv from my old lean sport, work sok but seems to come off boost quickly when i change first to second & second to third. the car has revo stage 1 & is on the 98 ron setting. cheers again jonnyvt
 
i also find the brakes of the lcr little bad

when braking normal u indeed dont have to give much to the pedal

but when u get into real spead on the motor way they fade like hell

quite dangerous !
 
hows it going !just wanted to say everyone needs to get the ferrodo ds2500 pads in a lcr along with a brake fluid upgrade to some ate super blue fluid. i had a similar problem, but now i cannot fault them. i have punished them to the point where i thought they would actually stop working but they carried on.high speed low speed doesn't make a difference. try it you'll not be dissapointed. ;-)

couldnt agree more, the DS2500 are amazing, makes the stock pads seem like they should have come off a micra....

Upgrade the fluid to RBF600 as well and your brakes shouldn't fade.
I have Carbotech XP8's, RBF600 fluid and EBC ultimax slotted discs and my brakes are amazing.
I would go for DS2500 if i were you due to the amount of dust the XP8's give off and they squeel in traffic when not upto temp.
 
After a round of 'spirited' driving a while ago whilst on OEM disks and pads I had to press my middle pedal so hard that my twitching arse was nearly off the seat. EBC TG Disks and Ferodo DS2500 pads and I've never looked back. Excellent.

aye.. sure do.. most of the guys on here get it from me.. been an advocate of it for a few years as it cured my own boiling brake fluid issue. never looked back

ds2500's in action below - inside the car oblivious to how hard they were working.. consistant brake pedal throughout. the pictures were a shock when shown to me.
