Hi Guys (again!)

For the last couple of weeks I've been properly looking for a FR petrol with little success at my price point and options that I'm after.

Last night I stumbled across a 57 plate Cupra in red, 26,000miles, which has been remapped to 295bhp at Morego, Brackley (looking at there website they use BBR Starchips) for just under £13.5k.

Two questions really, has anyone heard of the people that carried out the map and does the car sound like it's priced about right.

One last thing, going to look at the car Friday night, what things should I be looking out for and listening for when test driving, bearing in mind I know naff all about cars!

Cheers guys!!

BBR or Brodie Brittain Racing, IRC they used to be big in touring cars when the Sierra Cosworth was about. They have been around for ages and are know to do some bonkers power output conversions so i wouldn't let that put you off. Regarding the price, it don't seem too bad i paid £13995 for my 07 Cupra and it had 9k on the clock. Running costs will be similar but just check your insurance quote before signing on the line.

Morego are sound. As above BBR have been around for donkeys years and bought out GTI Engineering (very respected VW tuners who once had almost factory approval in the UK before the previous VW importers lost their franchise) who have been around for even longer than BBR.

That seems like a reasonable price for a 300bhp car, saves you a few hundred on re-map costs straight away! The Cupra is a lot nicer than the FR inside and has a good spec for the money generally. Only downside is the insurance.

Cheers guys,

Anyone got any insight on what I should be checking/listening for, ie. common faults that the Cupra suffers from?

Thanks again!

tbh i didn't even drive mine before parting with the cash, the first time I drove it was on the way home. With faults, well i think there is a sticky at the top of the forum regarding the fuel pump other than that just make sure it looks clean has a good history and no badly repaired panels. Oh and enjoy it, I love mine.

Pretty much my thinking, I know absolutely sod all about the way cars work or how they should sound, so if its in good nik, clean and well looked after (it’s a private sale) I’m going to end up buying it. Plus it’s going to be amazing to drive coming from an Astra Club 1.3CDTi, which is awful to drive.

To be honest I’m really looking forward to seeing it tomorrow, though I’ll have to leave a deposit and pick it up next week as my loans not going to be cleared till mid way through next week:cry:

I'm not sure if this is the best price, try haggling it down a little bit. I've just got 58plate FR DSG with 3900 miles for £14980.

i know its cupra and it has already been mapped but you get little to no warranty and plenty of miles which affects potential resale price...

If I like it when I get there I was going to offer £13k and perhaps meet half way at £13.25k, less hopefully.

I’m still getting over a year warranty and, even though it’s going to be acting as my company car, I only 3.5miles from the office and very rarely go out anymore so I don’t think I’m going to be doing anymore than 8k miles a year. So hopefully I should get reasonable resale when it comes to it in 3 years time!

Do you have any photo's of the car? Wouldnt worry too much if its a clean and tidy example and full service history should be fine. Also warranty can be extended. I'd offer any thing from £13k-£13.25k

It looks in pretty good nik from the photos i've got, find out tomorrow night hopefully.

Really, I thought it was 3 years? The ad for the car states that its got Seat warranty till Nov 2010! Any clues how I’d find out if this is the case or not?

I thought the warranty was 3 years ? its usually 1 year manufacture then 2 years dealer, some do 2 years manufacture 1 year dealer.

Quick things to check are that the front and rear number plates match, if one is newer than the other or not dealer supplied it can mean one end has had a bump. Looking at the pictures of the interior it looks like it could do with a damn good clean. How many owners has it had and does it have some history ?

Agreed, it does need a good clean, why you'd put up an ad and not clean the car is beyond me! According to the ad it has bluetooth, 1 owner and full Seat service history. Here's a pic of the dash, think i remember reading somewhere that its the best way to tell if a car has bluetooth?
