Hi guys, recently I have been having really poor mpg I dunno wether that is due to me not having a cold air feed in these summer months or something more sinister.

What can i check or clean etc just to get my normal mpg back :(

obviously tyre pressures, throttle body, air filter but is there anything else?

Much love

If you give the engine a good rev while the car is stationary, is there a large circle of soot below the exhaust opening?

clean your throttle body and replace your plugs probly just a little service and your car will defo run better plus clean your filter that makes the biggest difference

My car had rubbish mpg up until recently - sorted by:
-Replacing spark plugs
-Cleaning the throttle body
-Cleaning the MAF
-New Lambda sensor (which was the main culprit) - engine was running very rich (poor mpg), leaving large deposits of soot below the exhaust

Is your temp gague still coming up to the middle of the range?
Vac hoses
Blowing exhaust
Still running and pulling ok?

Ollie

Got it to do that as well, was driving like a bloody granny!

The mpg on my 1.4 has always been crap. What made it better in the end EnGbudd?

the figures on my gti 8v are poor at the moment.

Ive reset the ecu and cleaned all the TB and induction hose.

What sensor is faulty if the temp gauge isnt hitting half way ?

I think that will be the coolant sensor/thermostat.

I fitted a new one on Friday when I had to fit a new expansion tank and now my temperature gauge doesnt reach half way. But my fuel economy hasnt been affected, if anything it has increased.
