Shocking tyre Damage

Hi and thank you for letting me join your club,

One of my problems is i recently had what i thought was a slow puncture, turns out to be catastrofic tyre damage the inner wall edge was split and the wire exposed and the other one on the front is not far off this?
Is this normal or perhaps a one off or a bush or roll bar or etc problem causing this?
By the way the tracking and the balancing fine and no signs of damage last MOT .
Its a 2005 model with 22k now from new !:(

And do you drive over a lot of speed speed cushions. They hammer the inner tyre walls something stupid.

Its hard to make out from your post whether your tyre has worn down on the inner edge (but still on the road contact surface) to the construction of the tyre, or whether you have a split in the sidewall itself.

If its the first thing then it sounds like something out suspension wise or a bush going.

If its the latter then are the splits from the rim to the edge of the tyre or parallel to the rim around the tyre? Sometimes tyre split from suffering a heavy impact or if the cracks are parallel then I would guess at the tyre being run while flat which causes major damage to the tyre sidewall

If cords are showing on the inner sidewall, its not much really, its either breakdown of the tyre (age, or cheap tyreS) or its been rubbing on the damper or elsewhere due to incorect alignment of wheels, or a worn balljoint or bush, or could be down to excessive lowering, my old saxo was down 65mm and it rubbed slightly on full lock on the inner chassis leg.

Changed tyre today and it was the 20k original tyre so could be expected tbh as dated 2006 on the tyre.

Yes speed bumps every where in our area :(

They are the stock original Pirelli's rosso and Tbh i think the low pressure may have caused so aspect as checked my pressures and was running 18psi :headhurt:

I wouldnt mind knowing what oil filters you guys recomend as changing my oil next week and need a source?

i'm not surprised they were worn to the canvas if they've been on for 3 years!
how did you not notice the lack of tread a few months ago?!

I had my chap check and he said seemed ok but he did say they are on the limit and on full lock the inners did look a bit low and he was getting some but the split is past the horizon of the tyre and on the inner edge!which he didnt notice:(

He was upset with me and did mention why i didnt notice the stability or handling etc,I really dont corner in it as my last car was a METRO

Well youve done well to get 22k from the tyres and running them at almost half the recommended pressure wont have helped.
Fortunately for you and yours no harm has come and hopefully you have learnt 2 things from this.
1 Check your tyre pressures weekly.
2 Check the condition of your tyres, not just the tread, as frequently as possible.
