whistleing from engine bay

hi i have a loud whistleing noise comeing from the engine bay when the car is idleing which disappears when i rev the car then comes back after about 10mins of idleing. its a 130tdi sport on a 2004 53. any help would be appreciated.

Have a look at the aux drive belt condition - just changed mine cos it whistled.

Quick way to check it is to touch the ribbed side with a piece of chalk whilst it is ticking over - if the whistle stops it's the belt - change it.

turbo whistling through exhaust?

There are a few threads on here about similar things, whistle at idle that disappears when you blip the accelerator at idle. I would be interested to know what makes this happen myself.

Supposedly this is the EGR valve closing over.. or so I've been told.
Not sure myself though, so dont take my word for it

i just wd40'd the alternator wheel as that was whistling

Had this on my FR tdi from new. It seems to start a about 40 sec or so when left idling. bit wierd ?

Mine does it aswell, 53 plate sport 130. Always has done it and apparantley its nothing to worry about. Got a slightly different noise now though so think I'll check the belts

I sprayed wd40 down onto the alernator and the noise wen away. It's back today already, any ideas?

Whistling on tick over is from the EGR valve.
