Poor radio reception.

Hi,
My radio reception has got worse over past 2 months or so. Radio 2 just OK but local stations very poor.
I've removed roof ariel and it gets worse still, so I assume the fault is some where along the length of the cable. If I remove cable at head unit there is no signal at all. If I place HU removal key on ariel input the reception is absolutly fine.
Could it be a grounding issue with the ariel cable? What route thru car does it take? I've tracked from roof by peeling back lining partially. there doesn't seem to be an earth connection to the ariel itself where it goes thru roof?
Confused, any suggestions?

Just had the same problem..... apparently the aerial base is an amplifier with a voltage supply... It get corrosion inside from water and shorts and prevents the signal being amplified.

Got mine under warranty... But its a roof lining off and new aerial and base im affraid.

Do you know if there is any preventative measures that could be taken to stop this happening ?

cheers vinny Why would ariel need an amplifier? Its high up on car so doesn't need length.
I've accessed ariel base thru back of roofling without removing it all.
Suspect Morrisions car wash may have done it over past 6 months - prevention? - handwash.....
