newbie please help (lowering related)

hi all

sorry to be a pain but i have done a search and my question isnt exactly answered but a little clearer ..but some clarification would be much appreciated

firstly my car is a leon cupra tdi 150 2004 reg

i want to lower the car by approx 40mm max 50mm all round running on 18inch alloys.....cheapest way possibly

i know it wont be the best ride and understand coil overs etc weitech suspension etc

but my budget is VERY LOW, cheaper the better

my searching shows ebay is cheapest

i have found that if i search for leon cupra lowering springs they come in at approx £110 delivered for cheap ones 40mm drop

but if i search for leon lowering springs they come in at £70 delivered 50mm/40mm drop so this would be 35mm front and 25mm rear for mine? right?

OR WONT THEY FIT AT ALL?

also my research leads me to think golf mk4 springs also fit a leon?

if so they are much cheaper to buy at around £50/£60 delivered but if i get 40mm golf ones will they lower my leon cupra more or less than 40mm (i understand the cars are different weights etc)

thanks for the replies but im after just lowering springs and will be using standard shocks (as i say my budget is very tight)

anyone on here upgraded and selling cupra 40mm springs?

make sure the springs you buy are specified for your car or else you run the risk of them bottoming out due to the deisel being much heavier on the front end than the petrol version

look at jom kit, matched shocks and springs, around 140quid. decent reviews on that kit

yea thanks mate, i've looked into this and saw a jom coilover kit for £165 delivered on ebay, which i think is fair price as cheapest springs ive found so far are £107 delivered, for the few extra quid will mean i'll get a better ride and my shocks wont get knackered due to bottoming out all time if i leave them standard, i'll just do a bit more research into fitting it etc and probably buy

go for them.... look on vw vortex, and type jom coilovers into the search bit.. tons of info most of it good reviews

The same springs sold for the 180LC are for the TDI aswell.

one final question

apart from the spring damping issue...i.e the diesel engine being heavier so could cause more bounce if i use petrol springs etc
and the fact the cupra sit approx 15-20mm lower than standard models

all in all put simply would normal leon springs fit into my cupra tdi 150 04 reg...just a fitment question

i was thinking of getting 55mm/40mm springs hence lowering my car 35/20mm all round?

20vt springs and tdi are same fitment.

id match the lowering all round.

i'm having trouble finding the right drop at the right price ...im not fussed about make etc
i'm after a 40mm drop all round and willing to spend say £80 on springs with delivery? is that fair u think
my searches are landing me on springs over £100 so i thought instead of that i'd rather just pay that bit extra and get coil overs for £165

am i being too fussy?

better to get matched shocks and springs. 80 quid on springs doenst leave much choice if after a specific drop. also 40mm on oem shocks wont cut it

are the jom coilovers easy to fit?...ive looked on the guide here and it seems tricky d.i.y..or can they be done..fitting would mean more £££ whereas if i was just getting springs then i could do it myself and just get the fronts compressed in from the local garage after taking the shock out.

coilovers are easier than fitting springs to your oem shocks.

adjusting the ride height right would be the hardest part.

yeah i thought that ...it would be a case jacking it up, wheel off adjusting the nut lowering it down many a time to get it looking the way i want....ive been told i would possibly have to remove rear shock to adjust rear springs...even more of a painif it has to be done over and over!!
