Need help identifing part of engine??

Recently bought a Ibiza, flipped the bonnet today and noticed a pipe was missing. Not knowing a great deal about engines, can you tell me what the circled pipe is for and if it is important. hot air intake. not really needed but helps it get to temperature quicker on start up.

Thanks for the reply. Gets what to temperature? Engine, fan heaters? etc

gets the engine to temperature when you start it, when the engine is cold.

only needed during the winter and im sure we're a long way away from that.

I never had one for a good 12 months before I got a k&n induction kit on my old 1.4, never had the actual cold air intake pipe either. Didn't do it any harm ahha

grrr at that strut brace - looks so easily fitted there, come the gti 16v and it's a mission

my hot air intake is annoying lol, the pipe comes off all the time..
i need to clamp it in, but effort :'(

It's a load of tosh mate. Cover fell off mine, the hot air intake pipe was a pain... so ripped it all off. It's fine. Although, single points run a little lumpy when cold... mine seems ok though

do a search mate as craig did a "how to" a while ago on it. as he says, thats his car in the picture! and fitting the strut brace is dead easy too!
