U've hit the nail on the head here! Why pay that much road tax when you could just get a lesser powered model remap it to the same power as the R and pay a LOT less road tax? It's like pricing yourself out the market which I think they are in danger of doing at a very rapid rate with models like the R!!!!
They really should have done a hot Diesel Cupra on the Mk2! Would have sold like hot cakes! It would have been so easy! Just imagine a 250-280bhp TDI
mk2 leon. It would be a superb drive, the tax would still be low and you would still get "reasonable" mpg. Theyve missed a treat!
This is called showroom tax, which is now applied to all brand new cars.
