I have just checked this BMW cable with a freinds iPhone 3GS. You do get a message on the iPhone stating 'This accessory is not designed for the iPhone' however it works fine and charges the phone. The cable I bought from BMW was a different part number than the one quoted earlier in this thread, I'll post the number later after I get home.

thanks for clearing up the iphone query - glad its working for you

lol, some of you seem to have problem with tha cable, yet i got one and dont have any problems... good old hong kong ;) can always trust them! :D umm only thing i find annoying with it, is you cant actually choose the song you want via the ipod... and it all now has to be done by the controls on the steering column! shocking! otherwise no problems.

The part number for my BMW cable is 61120440812.

You can choose music from the usual iPod choices, Album, Song, Artist, Composer etc . The quickest way to slect music is to select your playlists if you have a large amount of music loaded.

is it something like this? or am i way off the mark?

Can you tell me where to get one of those, my ipod has a faulty headphone socket and this would save me buying a new ipod.

One more little morsal of information on the BMW cable, it interfaces fine and charges the latest version of the touch screen Nano, music navigation seems instant, much quicker than my 5 year old classic which was quicker than the USB stick. :)

Not sure. When I got the 61120440812 cable the chap in the BMW dealer said it was the latest version, I guess this inluded the iPhone a latest gen iPod charging as earlier ones would play but not charge. I don't know which version they included the newer iPod/Phone support.

I've been looking for a solution for playing my iPod classic on my mk5 Ibiza, could anyone confirm this cable actually works with the classic? (i.e controlling the iPod through the car's system, charging) ?

Yes it does, iy navigates my 80g classic and new Nano from the car and displays the information on the head unit. The knob on the head unit has to be used to select artist/album/song etc and is quite sensitive. The steering controls work the volume and track skip/back.

ONLY prob I have with mine is that when a track is finished and it autoplays the next song, it does not update title/info. if you skip a track with the controls it does. if i browse back a page, then hit track info, its there. weird but not life changing.

anyone else have this prob? any fixes?

This summary might be worth adding to the FAQ.

This post is for information only and highlights a tested option but does not provide recommendation.

For those cars with the factory fit combined USB and Aux (CUP) option installed there is an optional cable to provide song/album/playlist iPod control from the head unit and steering controls. The head unit provdes the display and is used to navigate the artist/album/playlist etc whilst the steering control will provide track skip/back and volume. The Seat cable is around the £80 mark. However a BMW cable part number 61120440812 will also provide this functionality at about half this price from BMW dealers or cheaper if you search.

This BMW cable has been tested OK for function in a 2011 version SC car and will charge the following units:

  • iPod Classic 80G
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Nano 6th gen touch screen model

* All the above have the same 30 pin dock connector.

Do you have a part number or an ebay link for the Seat cable?

The genuine Seat cable information is available from the Seat site at:

Click the more information part for more detail. Thats as much as I know. Anything else would probably mean a trip to the dealer.

Use ebay search and you will find all sorts of things. :)

Thanks, I'll look it up.
Took a trip to the dealer here (Israel) before coming up with the question on the forum, they weren't much help, they don't even know about the existence of said cable and me mentioning I want to have an iPod cradle pre-installed (ordered the car this week, haven't got it yet) had the guy mumbling something about a 3 month delay in the car's arrival

The factory lead time I was quoted in the UK is 12 to 16 weeks so that sounds about right. If however a car of that spec is in your country hub it would be a couple of weeks. The Seat iPod cradle is not a factory fit option so that should not cause a delay. The combined USB and Aux port is though. I guess the colour, spec and options on your car mean the car is not in the hub. Which version have you ordered?

Good luck when it turns up.
