northern monkeys!

But people from cornwall etc are hippy surfers

us southern softies dont feel the need to massage those Hp figures though:lol:

no idea what the ST's and VXRs make on there. i know after doing RR days with STs in the past that they dont make over 300Hp on the std turbo. think VXRs are the same as well. They come up north if they want free HP in doggy bags lol
I have read all the stuff JKM put on their website about r/r figures and considered it all, and as I have matured, I have realised there is a bit more to life than peak HP and ft-lb figures.

With that said and considered however, I have read that Focus ST's and Astra VXR's make close on the same figures at JKM as they do on other rolling roads.

A good translation of bhp/ft-lb in real life is 1/4 mile times, and the best ST's and VXR's on the 1/4 mile are a good 3/4 of a second and 5+mph slower top speed despite being the same weight. Put this on to a 1/4 mile calculator and you will see that you need a good 60+bhp to achieve times that much quicker.

Personally, I dont believe that JKM's claim of 330bhp on a 2.0T as being accurate when every other rolling road says different, yet other cars make close on what they do on the same "every other rolling road".

I have no reason to fret or worry about not making claimed figures as my new car is 100% standard and I am actually seriously planning to keep it standard, but I have a real issue with one set of rollers being different (much lower) than every other r/r and any justification as to why they are right and every single other one is wrong.

Free bhp or not, I know a standard Leon Cupra will keep with a mapped Astra VXR which supposedly makes 260-270 odd bhp and the Leon will only make claimed factory figures on JKM's r/r. Go figure.

I'm in Al's gang regarding this one. ;) Couldn't have put it better myself, especially the first line..
Don't agree with the standard bit though :cartman:

I know I bang on about 1/4 mile times a lot, but the terminal speed is a great indicator of a cars straight line performance. The time can vary depending on drivers ability, but so long as the driver isn't a complete muppet the terminal speed should always be around the same (give or take 1-2 mph)..
If JKM's RR results are right, then then how my car when running Stage 1 (with TBE) could run 107mph terminal speeds with around 270-80bhp, i'll never know.. Because I bet my left arm that a standard Rocco R or Mk2 Leon Cupra R would get no where near 107mph and they are only 10bhp or so down. If someone can explain this to me, i'm all ears..

what about all the other stage 2+ cars there then?? 330Hp is the highest ever output seen by a k04 TFSI on JKMs rollers

AFAIK Sy, they have never RR a healthy Stage 2+ KO4 yet. They have only done 3 or 4 and all had running problems (so JKM say anyway). But then again, most modded cars that go on their rollers do..

i thought i would just put a quick post up ,

i think there are a few issues when it comes to rolling road figures , firstly i think if you just mod a car , jump on a set of rollers at different locations and just try to chase numbers you will never be happy.

But if you mod the right way , ie using a set of rollers that the operator sets up the same way each time and prove consisitent , then you take these numbers as a base line then start modding , then again revisit the same rollers to see your gains then i think you wont and cant be dissapointed.

If you read on the yanks forums you will see various makes of rollers better than others but in reality is it the way the car is set up?

i have used jkm rollers and i know that my car is consistent when put on them say 6 months apart and im happy with that , i know what my base line figure is and i know what difference mods will make.

i did go on power engineerings rollers who are supposedly subuaru experts and ford , and they gave me 267 bhp as standard thats 27 bhp up compared to jkm , who do you believe? also was the same make of dyno.

im not sure how the 1/4 mile times show you if your car is a true factor because you have to calculate in drivers and reaction times? missing gears and changing up too soon or too late.
what would be good to know is find out which rolling roads the remap companies use and put your car on there rollers to see how close to the gains you get , thats the only true way or comparing eggs to eggs.
at the end of the day if Revo claims 300 bhp from a remap and you get 280 on jkms rollers (thats what most stage 1 maps achieve) are you going to say i have a problem? or are you going to see what it feels like on the open road?

What rollers do JKM use anyway?

I've always been a big fan of the dyno dynamics one as it is conservative and does not try and over-cook the numbers.

That said, RRs are always a lottery and should only really be used to setup a car (along with a road test for true performance). As you all know the real difference will come to light when you drive 'em.

Only true way to tell if one car is performing better than another is a RR day or a quarter mile dash (although this does give better drivers an advantage).

Which reminds me, mine is running really bad at the moment (or maybe just got used to stage 1+)

There was a healthy ED30 stage 2+ that gave 322bhp on JKM's rollers. My own car that is a ko4 converted gave close to 330bhp on JKM's rollers. My mate has a cupra stage 2+ that is definately healthy and i can stay with him all day long and a S3 stage 2+. So on that reckoning circa 330bhp is all you will get on their rollers whether it's correct or not. A ko4 turbo as nice as it is can not flow enough for 360+bhp without nos etc

so 330bhp cupras are destroying new m3s and 410bhp evos in a straightline?

Granted sportec have homologated stage 2 plus engines at 323ps and 474nm torque.

Either way I dont really car what the dyno says, and 1/4 figures arent always the best indicator for speed either.

For me 30mph roll ones against other cars really puts thing into perspective as to how quick your car really is.

Agreed. Perfect statement.

Well for a start, a S2+ Cupra/Ed30 will be/is quicker than a S2+ S3 when rolling. So how did you compare against them both in more detail (if poss)?

Actually i was quicker than a stage 2+ S3. Regarding the Cupra .I have driven it, been behind, side by side, swapped cars( to make sure it wasn't driver skill) the outcome always the same so i know it will be circa 330 on JKM's rollers.

Poverty as you say your self weight etc maybe to do with it, 4 wheel drive drag etc. The 2.0T is very torquey when tuned. The higher HP cars will shine more up top. Put an M3 beside a Cupra stage 2+ for 2 miles what would the outcome be?

Depends on whether the m3 is de-limited or not

Dave , revision D mate you know it makes sense !

that your mates car?
what spec is it?
cup?

Is a rs cup I think. Has brembos and lsd.

Was yellow resprayed white by renault dealer and decals stuck on it as was demo car.

Stolen recovered hence low price, drives fine, hasnt been spanked. Didnt feel as quick as my stock k1, very smooth power delivery, fantastic steering.

So because jkm's rollers read lower figures then it must be accurate :lol::lol:

At the end of the day my cars fast and it eats stage 3 vxrs/st's for breakfast and you can add rs4's, e92 m3's to that list aswell and all this with just 330hp :worship::clap:

mmmm something doesnt quite make sence all the other dynos in the country give 340 and above including other dd rollers, but obviously all these other dyno operaters dont no sh!t do they

Anyway im bored of this boll@x, my cars fast and thats all that matters!
