35W or 55W hid kit??

Dont think there is much danger of melting housings on these, I along with many others are running 55w HIDs and havent melted anything yet.... the lens does get warm, but wouldnt say it was anywhere near melting levels

one of friends once ordered a set of 55w hid kit from vvme .com ....
after it was emailed to his door, he found it is 35w bulbs with 55w digital ballasts....then he called them, their customer service answered that it is for the warranty of 35w bulbs to work well with ballasts with relay harness.... until now it still work, no more problems except that a little flickering after startup firstly then went away and become more and more bright after it warm up.....

anyone got this kind of 55w hid kit before ???? i mean stock 35w bulbs with digital 55w ballasts ??? any problems ????

To be honest this doesn't sound right! There would probably be too much power going to the bulbs and they'd be likely to fail! All 50w kits should have bulbs and ballasts rated to the same wattage. I've found a kit on Ebay for £55 that is a 50w 8000k H7 kit, with slim ballasts!

No idea about the higher wattage ballasts but being dim for the first 20 seconds is normal for HIDs while the ballasts settle the voltage down to operating level - as far as I can remember, they have to spike 20,000 volts or something silly to get the bulbs to light, and then operate at a much lower figure, something like 50-100v off the top of my head.

Once the current is settled and the bulbs have warmed up you will see them at the full brightness.

Not sure, but I'm definitely ordering a slim set! Made it so much easier when I put HIDs on my other car.

My driver's side one is mounted on the supplied bracket to the panel bolt, the nearside one rattled around in the box behind for a bit but (since I got the new ballast) I've secured it to the box on its side. Mine aren't the slim ones (I don't think )

Looks decent, but be aware those are the fat ballasts

I was gonna go for 50w, but it would probably attract more attention from the Police. 35w properly aligned should be bright enough

Mine's just gone through the 2nd MOT with them on (plus my dubmeister pressed plate!!!)

Police won't give a monkey's, I've noticed a load of cars have "bright bulbs" on... you can tell that they aren't HID's but "white" halogens.

So is it possible to fit the unit in to the light cluster cover with some double sided heat resistant tap like what ed did on wheeler dealers the other night?
