Rite just thought I'd help out any newbies or people who are a little unsure why there car won't go anywhere
First thing to do is get the car on a diagnostics machine, vag-com or VCDS I'd the best but you can get code readers from eBay that are of use vag-com is available from Ross-tech.
Usuall suspects to check
• Boost leak
Check all you oil breather system pipes for splits breaks ect
Check all the vac pipes -locations of some- under the in inlet manifold - on the N249 (if you have it) - on the dump valve/ recirc valve and a few more think
Check all the boost hoeses - and the tip (turbo intake pipe) most of the boost pipes are straight of the turbo & DV
If you have FMIC fitted the check the pipe work for this as as if lies or I'll fitted then will cause a vac leak
I also think that you can get them from master cylinder and a few other places witch I'm hoping people will add
The best way to keep an eye on this is to fit a boost gauge to keep an eye on what you boost to and what you vac is at idle
Standered boost is about 9-12 psi I think and on idle the gauge should read -22/-24 vac
Solution- have the car presure tested at you local vag specialist to locate any if all the leaks and replace apropeat pipes ect
• coil pack
Firstly do you have any dash lights on? Does the car sound like a scooby? Do you have a slight miss fire? Or does it miss fire alot? These are all signs of coils packs gone
Solution- have the car scanned on vagcom and replace the apropreat pack or if you can replace all four!
• Faulty MAF (mass air flow sensor)
This can bring up a traction control light either constant or on a MAF that's starting to go an intermittent one. Also the wiring on the sensor can cause this if is cracked or loes.
Solution- unplug the MAF and take the car for a quick sping and see if it performs better? If so then buy a new MAF not a cheep one tho
• Dirty throtle body
This can cause the car to under perform
Solution- 1 get some carb cleaner take of the inteercooler to throttle body pipe and spray it into the throttle body while reving the car
2 take the trottle body off and clean it by hand then replace and reset via vagcom (guides for this can be found via search)
• A broken turbo
Normal signs of this are blue, White or black smoke in excess, major loss of of power, turbo making strange noises and turbo failing to spool
Ways to check it are remove charge pipe (the one that comes off the turbo) and check for play in the turbine excessive play is not good have tge car checked out by you local vag specialist.
So far that's all my little brain can think off if I've missed ANYTHING or got anything wrong then please let me know
If you can add anything to this then post it and I will edit it in
And lastly I hope this is of some help and I'm sorry for my spelling
Cheers all
