I remember a story my Veh Design Tech teacher told us at school (some 20 odd years ago) about a rolls royce that was having lots of problems, in the the end they rolled it into the factory and swapped out the whole engine. Common sense prevails sometimes.

well seat dont seem to be in the same opinion as most normal people , im sure if my car was a pet it would have been put down ages ago

Warwickshire once.
Where do I start.......
Under bonnet sound deadening.
Glue marks around body kit removed twice.
Rear windscreen replaced.
Rear spoiler removed and refitted.
Rear high vision brake light replaced.
Sunroof refitted twice.
Sunroof under roof bit oiled and refitted.
Passenger side window oiled/greased.
Drives side headlight re-aligned.
Cam belt, tensioners, followers and whatever wouldn't stop making nasty noises replaced....this took 4 attempts.
Vin Stickers and Service book replaced......the originals were for a different car that isn't even registered. That one took a year and a half of letters.......I was getting to the point where discussions with solicitors were on the cards.

I'm sure there is more, I have a complete list at work along with all the letters I have written, the dates of all phone conversations and who/what was discussed each time.

And to top it all off SEAT UK would not lend my local garage an Ibiza Cupra for me to test drive.

I don't know how much that lot has cost so far, however my local dealer has been outstanding. It's a shame SEAT UK and M1 Autos have been so poor.

As for Rob, I have only ever heard one SEAT Leon Cupra Mk2 pop and bang on the overrun and I said at the time I didn't sound right. I cannot believe SEAT have done little to rectify your situation after all this time.

Sell up and go legal for any losses you make. You have a long recorded history of failed repairs and they have not provided you with any compensation for your losess to date.

I would say on parts alone the work to my car has cost in the region of £8000 to 9000 and they were saying it needed another new engine up untill a week ago. I'm not convinced its fixed but I'm getting rid regardless.

thats,
£5500 for a new engine
£1000 for a new ECU

Injectors, water pump, gasket, fuel lines and regulator, High pressure fuel pump, Engine mount...... and probably more as i dont have a full list of all the work done,

aditionally there is the vandalism (new dash, Passenger seat and door trim) while it was in their possetion and recently a new front grill to replace the one they put a hole in.

I do sympathise, Rob. No doubt you won't be looking at VAG again any time soon...

In the states they have the Lemon Laws, of course. Shame we're too feeble to do the same type of thing over here. :(
Also for some reason the car industry in the UK is subject to the official secrets act, don't know why. .................., probabley from WW1?@!

Well it looks like more cost coming , car is still missfiring its booked back in the stealers to be looked at.
On my last service 4k ago i mentioned my gears are meshing between changes , its been like it for a while but now slowly getting worse , so i asked them to adjust it , to which they replied no adjustment could be made it will have to be a gearbox off job !

I think its not going to be long before the actual warranty costs eith match or superceed what i paid for the car ! , no wonder SEAT are losing money.

I bought a second hand '07 plate TFSI FR from a main dealer with a 12month warranty registered with SEAT. Does that mean I can visit any national SEAT dealership to have them investigate issues, or do I have to go back to the dealers I bought it from?

My list so far:
- Drivers side window had big scratch on it (£not sure am gonna estimate £100)
- Rear tyres were bald on the test drive :S (£380)
- Engine bay sound deadning clips keep popping out (£16)
- Engine cover managed to shear off one of the mounts (£23)
- New fuel filter and pump (still makes whistling noise when i accelerate, according to them its totally normal??) (£300)
- Cleaned exhaust centre and back box out (£60 labour)
- Still have strange rattle behind dash (£60 labour to tell me they cant find it)
- Passenger side rear speaker blown (£46)
- Boot lining replaced (£25)
- Came back from having a few of these items repaired, with a hairline scratch on drivers door ( still under discussion as to which department is gonna pay for it)

So total under warranty with VAT and labour is probably around £2k

Considering i bought it in May and its been in and out of their service centre ever since. I love my car and i wouldnt give it up. But it makes you wonder how they can charge all that money for a car which has serious faults with it. My dealership has been ok, the guy who i bought the car from has been great actually. Always tries to get me a courtesy car while mine is booked in. But i've had so many arguments with the service centre now, that i just take my car to dealer, get my courtesy car and he takes it the half mile down road to SC.

Its got to the point where i'm not far from punching the 'Chief tecchie' right in the gob lol Each time he makes me feel as if i'm being an inconvenience to his daily routine. HELLO!! fix it 1st time and i wouldn't have to keep coming back! O and while were at it, if i leave my car with you with half tank of fuel, to take on a test drive to find said fault, I would like to see my car come back with at least a quarter! Last time they had it, it was telling me i had 0 miles left!!!! luckily theres a petrol station close by.

Nowadays (with the obvious few exceptions) i find that service centres of all manufacturers train the service techs to be fitters, not mechanics. They dont understand how the things work, all they do is bring car in, plug into computer, then read off faults. Instead of reading the job sheet, taking each fault and using knowledge and instinct to try and cure it.

If someone comes to me with a problem on their car (i'm not a mechanic but i'm pretty good with engines etc, i wont touch mine though as theres too many sensors and other things to go wrong and thats what warranty is for :]) i always tend to have a few suggestions as to what it could be. If none of these are right, then maybe a diag. machine would come into play. What happened to 'old skool' mechanics who knew the ins and outs of how things are put together. And mechanics who did the job right, well, and 1st time round??

I am having the 'CUPRA' badge put on my front bumper, and i've been told there will be no charge for this as i've had so much trouble with them. they have also offered to match the service price from the other Seat garage up the road. So theres 2 good points.... I suppose lol

Anyway rant over, thanks for letting me vent :D

Had my gearbox stripped down 3 times.
One new gearbox casing
Two lots of engine cover bungs
One engine cover intake
One gear selector pin thingy.
One wheel bearing
One high pressure fuel pump
One master cylinder
One clutch bearing plate

Car also needing a new wiring loom, which never got done as the garage couldnt diagnose properly. Took me 12 monts to figure out what was going on after constantly scanning the car and getting the same fault codes.

In the end when it played up I knew exactly which wires to jiggle about to get it to stop. Meant nothing to the stealers though.

Gearbox was also still shagged and it had a constant knocking noise when rolling along after they stripped down the box

The **** dealers is what pushed me to get the audi. Never buying a in warranty SEAT ever again.

My last 'black fuel' issue cost £7k, at trade prices for all parts. Had car 3 years and estimate warranty costs have hit 10k.

Not impressed and dreading the next issue...

Thats seems to be the trend , 1 thing fixed and another problem comes along , dealers are useless , unless they have had experience before from seeing a similar or same fault , mines back into the stealers today , i think i might have to start charing then lease rates :censored:

I'm glad i'm not alone. I'm sure they just like test driving my car, so they leave faults on it. That way i'll have to take it back lol

I did pose the 'are you gonna reduce my payments' question, it wasn't well recieved lol

this will give you a little insight into how bad things really are , my car went in for jerking over 2,000 rpm last week no faults are logged except a can bus communication error and rear door commuication error.

long story short no engine fault code nothing to fix !
so i asked the question , you scanned my car for faults? yes but no engine codes were there

so i asked about the communication errors , that will have to be booked in seperatly ,
if i hadnt mentioned them the garage would not have said a thing , thats their attitude shocking and criminal , most of the public dont have vcds and maybe hav faults they are not aware of.

i did get a free health check on my car , cheeky *******s.
