S3 engine is no stronger as far as I know Jason but I wish I had bought four wheel drive this time rather than another Cupra.

The comment on VXR Astras not being quick is true to a point when compared to an equivalently modified Cupra but in their own right, they are reasonably nippy when the correct modifications have been done. Agreed they sound good but I never considered them as competition for my old car. Looks wise, the VXR is arthritic now and it's replacement is iminent and looks set to have the basis and making of a quick car albeit about five years behind VAG.

S3 has lower compression?

Never figured why compression is different but when I busted down parts in etka most things werethe same as memory serves.

i am a ro for vxronline

Search Tips
The forum has been active since 2001, and as such a forum this large has a vast number of re-posts. A great deal of this information can be overlooked by New Users. We politely encourage users to lookup the information that is freely available to find if you simply use the search functions - Click here for Search functions

Be specific and enter lots of keywords, also narrow your search field by searching only specific forum sections. For example if its a Leon specific query, set the search engine to only search in the Leon forums. The more information you give the search engine the more chance it has of finding something from the database that answers your question.

Many common questions, such as dump valves (whooshy), chip tuning (remaps) have been discussed in great length many times before. If you have searched and can either not find what your looking for or have more questions relating to the subject that may not of been answered. Then by all means start a new thread in a relevant section. If the subject is already covered in an existing thread then please add to the existing subject rather than starting a new thread

Does it have different cams and injectors aswell. Still theres pretty much no difference when both are at stage1, 2, and 2+.

Yeah agreed there is no performance difference. S3 has different cams but same injectors does it not?

Would a bigger variety of stickies be helpful for avoiding posts like this? Common searches such as 'best oil' or 'best tyres', 'best winter tyres' would also be helpful stickies - or am I missing these? Are they currently in the FAQ section?

I know the search function is there for a reason, but stickies are also incredibly useful especially when using small screens.

It would also avoid extra sever resource load by limiting popular database searches.

The people that just put up new threads willy-nilly never bother searching. There's a FAQ section for most of the model sections. We find people don't read stickies either.

Some of the most valuable threads are 4-5 years old. Most newbies go nowhere near them, prefering later mis-information from newer members who know as little as they do.

Completely agree with you dave , I know I should used search and I appolagise but this thread as become a interesting read ,

Mods / admin do a great job on these sites and keep every 1 in ship shape

Electronic diff is a lie. Isn't it just an open differential with a clever traction control system?

I'm actually quite unimpressed by the build quality of my car. I previously owned a Vauxhall and believe it or not, had less rattles and petty stuff go wrong with it than my Leon.

Folk will say i've got a bad apple, however i have been in another car with similar issues to mine - mainly niggly interior rattles.

In terms of performance tuning the cupra/ed30/s3 engine is more tunable for the money(Bhp/£) than any other engine on the market in the same range.

For instance you start @ 240Hp. add exhaust, intake, intercooler , fuel pumpand stage 2+ remap and you will be in the region of 360hp.

Add the same to a focus RS with its 2.5litre 300Hp base engine, and you'll be about 370Hp(but its heavier so it still gets whooped on the road/track and 1/4 mile by the k04 TFSI)

add all the same to an astra VXR, you will only get around 295Hp, a Focus ST will only get about 295 as well.

Looks like we all made the right choice then! :D

cupra cannot be beaten bang for buck on a new car.

To go up the next level above that I believe the TTRS or RS3 cannot be beaten for bang for buck, especially the s-tronics.

I would like an RS3 other than the fact the mechanicals are being housed in a near obsolete body.

A Cupra with DSG would be the best combo, and that is an Ed30 in reality, but the R20T takes that and adds four wheel drive which gives initial off the line take off a front drive car could only dream of along with lightning gear changes.

Just found that the new S3 has engine code CDL same as the FL Cupra and Cupra R.

Yeah maybe, but we always knew they were all but the same. Now we know they are the same :)

Are you sure about the standard Cupra Al? Just looked on wikipedia and found this:

BWJ
177 kilowatts (241 PS; 237 bhp) @ 6,000 rpm; 300 newton metres (221 ft·lbf) @ 2,200-5,500 rpm — SEAT León Cupra, SEAT León Cupra Mk2 facelift

BZC, CDL
188 kilowatts (256 PS; 252 bhp) — Audi S3 (8P)
BHZ
195 kilowatts (265 PS; 261 bhp) @ 6,000 rpm; 350 newton metres (258 ft·lbf) @ 2,500-5,000 rpm — Audi S3 (8P)
CDL
195 kilowatts (265 PS; 261 bhp) @ 6,000 rpm; 350 newton metres (258 ft·lbf) @ 2,300-5,200 rpm — Audi S3 (8P), Audi TTS, SEAT León Cupra R Mk2 facelift, Golf R

Pre facelift Cupra has engine code BWJ

Facelift Cupra has code CDL (CDLD) as does Cupra R (CDLA).

The info above is not properly accurate.
