hi lads i hav a leon cupra

i wanted to spray my silver mirrors to a nice gloss black colour to suit the rest of the car

can some clever person out there help me on the following

how to take the wing mirror covers off .

what bits i need to paint the wing mirror e.g. what lacquer , paint ?

thanks in advance:):funk::funk::funk:

Right mate, fold the mirrors in then the casing is easier to pry off - Small flat headed screw driver and a good yank.

All I did for mine was -

Sand down the originals with 1200 wet and dry paper.
Gloss black paint 2-3 coats waiting for it to get tacky between coats
Car clear coat laquer (I didnt add the laquer)
A good polish

and have you got a photo of yours buddy ? ? ? can you please take 1 for me so i can see the finished result ???

Readers ride link at the bottom of my sig for pics mate.

Yeah just a small screw driver and some persuasion

They are tighter than you think. You really do need to get a blade in the edge once folded in and try and get a finger in further down the opened sigde and pull, hard and you'll possibly then fall over backwards with cap in hand! lol!

i broke/bent 1 tab off each of my old mirror caps but nothing that cant be fixed i guess. Bought some gloss black ones from ebay anyway to replace them!!

Mirror cover removal this way will end two ways succes or SNAP or CRACK!!!

With respect to this poster, What you need to do is adjust your mirror glass to view the floor (down) pop out the mirror glass carefully, then if you look carefully you will see the scissor clips 4 of then that hold the mirror cover on the base, use a pair of needle nose pliers to carefully free these then carefully remove the mirror cover.

No breakages! I speak from snapping them myself, live you learn!

Jim

Fair enough - mine were fine on removal twice so far. Maybe I'm lucky.

Either way you got them off yet?

you can buy the gloss black ones of david in sere motors.. i think they were less than 20 quid for the pair

@ captin cupra are you thinking of the older square type mirrors? you dont need to touch the mirror glass in the tear drop ones. just fold them in and lift them off with a small flat screwdriver.. worked for me loads of times. never damaged anything

No im talking about teardrop type, This is the correct way of removal thats all im saying i used to work part time at a body shop and learnt never to force anything, if you can get to the fastenings which you can if you just pop out the glass, whats the use in risking snapping these off when you can just free them from inside takes two seconds, not only that you wont scratch of the paint or mark the plastic ramming a screw driver in there, theres always a proper way.

haha no bother. i have had the mirror caps off too many times.. always use the way above.. i would be afraid i would brake the glass the way you said

I like knowing the proper way! ive seen bumper ruined by idiots pulling and pulling only for 1 screw to have been left.

I dont think the OP has done this yet has he?
