Fog light installation

Hello everybody!

(I know its not a Leon, but as there is more activity here, and the cars is similar I posted here too!)

Have been thinking on putting some fog lights in my '99 tolly for a while (yep, came without them..) I have bought the lights themselves, plus the grilles and a main switch with proper fog light functions. The lights and grilles are all installed and smart looking, now its time to bring some juice to them..

As mentioned, I have yet to install the main switch, and hook up the power. I have read about this on several sites, and I have come to believe that the wiring is NOT already in place on models originally without fog lights?

In which case, is there any ideas about how to proceed from here? Is there any wiring diagrams I could use for this, and do it all by myself? I reckon there is a relay connected to the pins behind the switch, but is there at least connections for the fog lights between the switch and the relays already installed?

I want to do this as simple as possible, and hopefully near-original. FYI i am going to install HIDs in these, but with a low wattage, so dont start the discussion about foglights again

Thanks a bunch for any answers!!

when i dond this on my bora i bought a pre wired loom in the motor factors.. something like this would do. link
just bring a wire from your new switch out to the relay and away you go

Thanks for answering.

So are you saying that a relay already sits behind the dashboard, and all needed is wiring? Didnt notice any switch in the sketch on that website though...

there is no switch on the sketch because they are wired to come on with the headlights. no there is no relay fitted to the car. that comes with the loom. there is a space on the relay board to fit it there if you want.. you could just buy a relay and make your own loom if you wanted.. 4 wires on the relay
1.power from car battery (could be got from under the relay board)
2.earth (also under the relay board)
3.power from switch in car
4.power to the bulbs (just need to run this wire from under the dash to the engine bay)

No relay in Leon or Toledo for foglights, or for any light in fact.

Wiring, if it is in place, should be grey/yellow plus brown, grey/yellow is the switched output from the light switch on the dash, brown goes to earth in the dash harness. Wiring colours will be hard to see at the foglamp end, they will be in flexi conduit. I don't know if all harnesses carry the front fog wiring though. Two-pin connectors, if they are there, should be behind the grille area.

Here's some pics I took when the bumper was off - mine is a TDI 110 Toledo so has a side-mounted intercooler.

The offside foglamp connector is dangling from the bumper bar in front of the intercooler. The nearside connector is lying on top of the horn: the large lump hanging down in front of the tyre is the outside air temperature sensor.

This one shows the nearside more closely, with the loose foglight connector on top of the outer horn.
