Hi,

Just drove home not long ago and this light was flashing at me the whole way home (15 minute drive), and won't go off.....what does it mean?

I didn't get a manual when I bought the car last year so help would be appreciated!

Regards,
Will

Yeah mate, well first of all, is it a diesel cos if not then no idea why its on
Heres just a picture i googled and does say it
ts

Oh right i see, i've never seen that before. Cheers for the insight :)

Yeh thats glowplugs 100%, not brake light, brake light switch puts the EPC light on and in limp mode. Dont listen to Mick. Normally when your car is fine do you wait for tht light to go off before you start it??

The fact that the glowplug light is flashing doesn't mean it's a fault with the glowplugs - it's the engine management's way of telling you there's an engine fault.
The glowplug light only refers to glowplugs when it stays on (which you'll rarely see on PD engines unless it's really cold on startup).

Definitely check your brakelight switch is working, it's a very common cause of this.
If it's not working, you'll either have no brakelights, which is very dangerous...or they'll be stuck on.

Can I also point out the above.

Sorry mate, played a full 90 min today and we lost 3-1 so im not in the best of moods, shouldn't have brought it on here

Thanks for all the replies!

Just went to test the brake lights, they're all fine....

Then left the ignition on for about 60 seconds and after about 60 seconds the light stopped flashing! Seems to be OK now!

"Normally when your car is fine do you wait for tht light to go off before you start it??"

In response to this mate, I usually put my car in the garage overnight so they car is usually in no lower temperatures than 3 degrees c....so the glow plug light switches off nearly instantly.....but I must admit I don't usually look out for it so I may have started it quite a few times without it going off.....

Not sure why it's suddenly gone off though? I shall keep an eye on it and will wait for it to turn off before putting the engine on now.

The brakelight switch can be temperamental when its starting to go. Mine was, was working one day then not the next.

Mine ended up sticking on, but they could end up not working at all.

New switch is about £8-9 from SEAT.

Take off the panel above the pedals (3-4 screws)
Unplug and twist out the old switch.
Twist and plug the new switch into place (Making sure it clicks into place)
Re-attach panel and do up 3-4 screws.

Simple! :)

Dad had the brake light switch go on his A6, it works the same way on the Ibiza.

At first it was temperamental as other's have said, clearing the codes with VCDS would make the warning lights go away for a few days, eventually the lights were on permanently and that was that!

The A6 had the glow plug light, ABS light, ESP light, and a big red (!) with the word "STOP" illuminated. Overkill much?
