hey everyone,

have had my ibiza for just 6 moths now and have only had one problem wish is the back window washers sprays the passengers feet rather than the window but i am getting that repaired next week as the whole dash comes off...

anyway, pulled up to the traffic lights tonight and my mate was beside me thought i would **** about and rev the car lol, we have all done it so no slags please... but my car only revved to just under 4000RPM and wouldnt go over it.... I thought this may be due to the fact i had the clutch in and the car was in gear so pulled over and tried it in nutural and still nothing happened... :(:(

However the car drives perfectly no power lose and i can put the car in gear and drive off at speed hitting well over 4000RPM....

Is this a problem i should report to seat to look at next werek with the window washer or is this some sort of fail safe to stop people wrecking their cars???

No problem ... that's all it revs to in neutral! I had similar concern before when I fitted my induction kit ... car wouldn't rev past 4k ... I thought I had done something wrong in the fitting. But, 4k is all you are going to get ... presumably to protect the engine.

Yeah its because to save the engine so you don't blow it up un neutral, and I hear its for launch control because most vags come standard with launch control now but a basic 1

No mk5 will rev beyond 4k when stationary (if standard)

Im sure techie said its somthing to do with emmisions regulations or somthing like that

No that's ment to happen!!! Its a new feature that the spainish put in so clean your feet because its so hot and sweaty you feet will stink up the car :p

i tested this 4000rpm thingy the other week in my car the other week and there was no limit. is mine broken or does the 1.6 not have a limity thing?

When at a complete standstill mine wont go above 4000rpm either, but if I let the car roll to say 2/3mph then change to neutral and rev then it can go right to the red line.

No the 1.6 doesn't have it (old engine/management)

And I do a couple of washer repairs a week on the Fabias for the same reason as the ibiza. Great when it leaks above the conv unit and fills it with water.

TDi only revs to 2,500 rpm when stationary. Also it will only rev to 2,500 rpm when moving if the brake pedal is pressed. When driving if you touch the brake pedal just enough to light the brake lights it will only accelerate to 2,500 rpm on full throttle. Keep it on full throttle and release the brake pedal and the power comes back in very gently. Well, at least that's what mine does.

It also means the engine won't destroy itself if the throttle sticks open so long as you keep your foot on the brake until you've stopped.
