so if one person has one..and they only need to use it once, then surely selling it on would make sense, then the buyer uses it once, sells it on and so forth..we all get remote control windows!
No, it's strictly one use only, the internal circuitry goes pop or something to prevent it from being used again.

Yeah it's probably not an actual 'pop', but it does seem to be a one use thing. I've seen similar devices fry an onboard fuse to prevent reuse, or corrupt/wipe their own memory.
There is also the consideration that the KVW100 devices also supposedly locks the central convenience module, preventing further updates.
I would really recommend you look at the alternatives first.
