Oh, okay. Ugh. Won't do a mk3. Downsides of a good looking car; it's old and nothings compatible!

I've been thinking of getting one of these too...although I never got round to finding out more. I'll have a look round on the net for somewhere that sells 'em and once I do I'll post a linky on here :)

so if one person has one..and they only need to use it once, then surely selling it on would make sense, then the buyer uses it once, sells it on and so forth..we all get remote control windows!

No, it's strictly one use only, the internal circuitry goes pop or something to prevent it from being used again.

I don't understand why they're still being sold though, certainly to people on here. I'm sure there are at least two methods that will do the same job for free, one must work on the mark 4? I'm 99% sure I set it up for someone on here who had a mark 4, worked no problem.

 This KVW100 will self destruct in 5 seconds.... (Mission Impossible music plays in the background.......)

:D Yeah it's probably not an actual 'pop', but it does seem to be a one use thing. I've seen similar devices fry an onboard fuse to prevent reuse, or corrupt/wipe their own memory.

There is also the consideration that the KVW100 devices also supposedly locks the central convenience module, preventing further updates.

I would really recommend you look at the alternatives first.

As far as I'm aware, it can only be done with a serial cable on the mk4. So it's not the simplest. Can be done though

Doesn't that russian/czech software thingy work?

I'd be happy to lend the OP a hand with getting hold of a serial cable and the relevant software if he's got a suitable laptop?
