I'm currently looking into this KVM100 window thing...so far I've not seen a supplier's price other than one who seem expensive to me at £47.99 for a one use KVM100 unit.

I am looking into using a serial ported OBD cable via a DOS interface to manually change the convenience module memory address values in the ECM. However, I have read that Ross Tech purposefully do not offer the KVM100 functionality within VCDS as it is possible to 'brick' the Car's Convenience Module if anything bad happens during the process.

I think I might give the mod a try if I can get hold of a cheap serial OBD cable and can then get the interface to work :) Ebay looks a good bet with cables for around a tenner.

The advantage being if I sort it myself, I will be able to mod my Convenience Module as I choose without the one shot KVM100 £50 thing going on. Plus I'd be able to revert it back to factory settings if I wanted to.
:D

Yes, there is a risk that you can 'brick' your convenience module, so Ross Tech are taking quite a logical stance considering their target audience. But it really isn't that bad as long as you're careful. The one thing is that the DOS software doesn't have an 'are you sure' option, as soon as you press return that's it. So be VERY careful when you type!

I've done this now on mine and a few other cars, and only one didn't work. That was because the car was too new, and the interface didn't recognise the car. All the others have worked fine.

If you need a hand, PM me and I'll help out. :)

Cheers Slimy, I definitely appreciate your help. In honesty I won't be getting on with this for a week or so but if I could ask a question or two (Via PM) when I think of any I'd be grateful.

I guess out of the ones you've done, the one that didn't work may of had a different model of Convenience Module through it being new. Mine's an '05 so I should be okay.

I would like the windows closing option that's for sure :)

Yeah, ask away no problem. The one that I didn't get working had the newer CANBUS rather than the standard KKL stuff, it was a Mark 2 Leon. Not even a standard VAGCOM lead worked. I'm almost positive that I've done a Mark 4 Ibiza, I remember trying it after I'd programmed it and there was a kiddies toy stuck to the rear window!

It is useful, especially when it gets warmer. Being able to wind all the windows down remotely before you get in your roasting hot car is a godsend!

Cheers Slimy that's good of you I'll be PM'ing you with a couple of Q's sometime soon :)

In my quest for a suitable cable I found one secondhand on ebay. Some total knob bid way over the odds at £21.50 plus p+p.

Having missed out on that one, I have bought a nice shiny new cable from a very nice chap in China for £7 inc postage

Having said that, £7 is hopefully going to be a lot better than a one use KVM100 at 48 quid (which doesn't seem to work anyway on MK4's from what R1ch85 found)

...all I've got to do now is wait for my order to arrive from China ZZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzzzzZZZzzzzzzzzz (looks at watch)ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz:sleeping:

You find that frequently on Ebay. I was watching a CD on Ebay that eventually went for £11, so I went to the Buy it now one just underneath it for £4....

I managed to get a serial lead and a USB lead in one auction for about £8 IIRC, and sold the USB lead for a fiver!

Any more linky's on where to get the kvw100 from, checked awesome, very high evaluation of £50 lol, rang them and they said it wont work on a 1.6 leon 2004, it only works on golf's mk4... I thought it was the same thing, sureley they should have the knowledge to know?!... or not?
