Hi I have just brought a 60 reg Leon Cupra R , and the salesman was saying that they don't make them much anymore only to order , is this is true or salesman flannel ? So if there are rare how many where made ?
Also what is the difference between the k1 and the R ?
Any info greatly appreciated , thanks

The Leon Cupra R is still advertised on the SEAT website. They will be rare as they cost £5k more when first released than an equivalent Cupra pricing it up beside the Focus RS, Golf GTi and Megane RS, but under the skin, save for the intercooler, mechanically the Cupra and Cupra R are all but the same (same 2.0TSi CDL engine, same K04 turbo).

The Cupra K1 is Pre Facelift only and differs from the Pre Facelift Cupra by way of having the Aero kit fitted along with an Astra VXR style exhaust.

SEAT said they would limit UK production of the R to 500 hundred a year. I do know the factory is pretty busy filling all the current UK orders from the "VAT free" promotion and both of my new SEAT FR's have been factory orders as very little stock is kept.

The Cupra and Cupra R are not part of that deal though as memory serves? Right enough, there was a limit to be put on the Cupra R, but I bet that won't be rigidly stuck to if someone really wants one.

Apart from some decent deals around on dealer launch model ex-demo Rs I didn't expect to see many on the road for quite some time. However I've seen three 11 plates in the last couple of weeks which surprised me greatly. And that's even more surprising when you factor in that I don't get out and about on the roads much these days.
When you consider the Golf and Scirocco R have been available for over 12 months now and I've only ever seen one black Golf R locally to me and never a Scirocco version that's puts it into perspective as I thought the VWs would outsell the SEAT R by a significant number owing to the greater awareness of the general public that those models exist (despite extortionate prices).

I heard the same. I doubt sales would not be turned down if there is demand.

I’ve only seen another one in MK, and that was in the showroom, so quite pleased with that.

The Cupra is on the 20% VAT free offer as nearly went for that over the FR TSi we have just ordered and all diesels are half VAT but the Cupra R is not as you say part of the offer. Due to demand the Cupra R is only being built to order the nearly new one they had in Derby has just been sold was on the front of the dealership for the past three weeks.

As a new buy you would have to of been really keen to pass up having a Cupra with 20% off compared to maybe 1-2K off a Cupra R if you are lucky. VAT free offer finishes on the 31st and no plans to continue it for the moment......

The way you wrote it means they share nothing in common. In fact, the R has different wheels, brakes, suspension and exhaust so it's not just the intercooler that's different.

Is it worth the extra cash compared to a Cupra? Not in my opinion, because it ought to feel more exclusive, but for some it is worth the extra. :)

Brakes are the same, suspension is virtually the same, but the exhaust is different for sure (plus the diffuser).

I would have bought the LCR over the LC, but I simply could not justify £5k for a £300 intercooler I already own and could fit, I don't like leather seats much and I can't see the benefit of 19" wheels. If the LCR had DSG, LSD or something significant over the Cupra, I would have bought it, but the fact that when tuned, they both have the same power really makes the extra power when standard insignificant in my opinion. In addition, having driven both, the performance difference is very small.

You are correct in saying the LCR has exclusivity, and thats something that their owners will like :).

You didn't waste your money as you have something that is very rare has parts no other Leon has and will be worth more come resale time :). Main thing is that you are happy with it :D
