Hiya, just picked up my 1,2 tsi and noticed that around 2000 rpm it makes a clicking/ticking sound.
Its seems like its just before the turbo kicks in and when it shuts off...

Have any of you TSI owners experienced this ??

I heard the same sound on a 1.2TSI courtesy car I had the other week. Sounded in sync with the DSG to me, maybe it's a control unit for it. I don't get the same sound on my Cupra though.

Well this is a manual so don't think its DSG related. Or maybe its a feature of the 1.2 tsi that isn't listed in the manual, tried looking for "launch control" in the index but nothing..;)

1.2TSI manual here, I also get the click. It's never really bothered me but I'd like to know exactly what the relay in question is controlling. I thought it was to do with the energy recovery feature but it can't be if the DSG version also does it. It does indeed click at about 2000 RPM and is followed by an increase in power. I always use it as an indicator that I'm not driving economically! :)

A couple of YouTube search results suggest it's relay no.53, fuel pump EKP relay.

Got the same thing on my DSG 5 dr SE, the car also does it when in cruise control mode. Everything seems to work fine so I'm assuming it's something to do with throttle demand.

Had the exact same clicking sound with the 1.2 TSI

They fixed it, turned out to be a fuel supply relay, easy to fix when they know where to look for.
Weird that so many people have this problem.

That's good news (since I find it quite annoying).

Im leaving my 4 day old car to the garage next week to fix a rattling noise from the door panel and flickering interior lights, so might just as well ask them to sort out the clicking sound.
When I asked them about it they said they never heard of it, do you know if its a recall or known problem that I can reffer to ?

Cheers

I had it fixed about two weeks ago.

At the time they told me that the Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSI was too recent for the importer to have any known global issues at all.

Good luck with getting it fixed! Telling your mechanic that it's probably the fuel supply relay will surely help!

Just so I am clear about this - I have a single click just before the turbo kicks in and then again when it cuts out. Is this is the clicking we are talking about? I don't have multiple clicks or relay chattering on my DSG 1.2TSi.

I'd be very interested to know if there was any change in throttle response after the clicking was eliminated as pulling away seems to be a bit of an 'all or nothing' experience on my new DSG car . . . or maybe I'm just heavy-footed!

Yep, its the relay that's clicking though.

Haven't noticed any changes, it just removed the clicking sound.

Just left the new biza to the mechanics to have a look at the relay sound, and managed to get hold of a top fella that was gona have a look at it.
Got recommended this company from another volkswagen fella and have to say they really seem to know what they are talking about.

The guy just rang me and gave me an in-depth explanation of the problem and told me that it was the relay for the cooling of the turbo that gave the clicking noise, and apparently there have been 6 revision to this component, the guy promised to mail me more info about it so will post it when I get it mailed to me.
Other than that he fixed a rattling noise from the door (just needed to tight the screws that hold the speaker) and also another rattling noise from underneath that was a piece of metal that was laying against some metal bar.

Ok, I'm not happy about these things happening on a brand spanking new car, but on the other hand, to get this kinda top service isn't something I have come across before so I'm not to pissed off about it

So if you get stuck in Sweden near Stockholm and need service on some of your Volkswagen cars, you should give these guys a shout kwbilservice.se

Tack! You're a star :D

Sadly, Stockholm is a l-i-t-t-l-e bit too far for me, but the information is very useful. Did he say that the revision should be done, or is it not urgent?

He didn't mention that it was a recall on it or anything, but that the component has been revised a number of times prob means they have had some issues with it. Guess the clicking noise could be one of them.

Still you gotta love when a mechanic says "If those #&%*& Spaniards could just learn how to tighten screws properly" :-D

Hi,

I've noticed the same relay clicking noise as the engine transitions 2000rpm, with my 1.2TSI DSG SC Sport, it appears to come from down near my right leg where the fuse box is in the dash.

I reported it to the dealer and they raised a technical query with SEAT, who responded that this noise is a characteristic of the car??!!??

I find it very annoying while driving under light throttle loads, and if you set the cruise control to approx 60mph you can get the relay clicking on and off quite often as it adjusts the throttle to maintain speed on inclines etc..

Seat told me the relay that is clicking is responsible for the Continuously variable fuel pump system, and is adjusting the fuel pump speed as engine fuel demand increases, this all sounds faily feasable to me being the engine is Direct Injection, however I have concerns that this relay or component isn't going to last the distance as if your not booting it around it must switch 10-20 times over the 15 minute commute I do every day to and from the station.

I notice that somebody on here has said that they have managed to get the problem resolved, SEAT and my dealer are saying there is nothing wrong and the car just does this don't worry about it, does anybody have any more details on how this was fixed for them??

Thanks,

Andy.

"his noise is a characteristic of the car" hahahaha, seriously ?
If this was such a characteristic feature, should this be in the spec list, listed as a "Features Click noise at 2000RPM"

The mechanic that had a look at my car told me that this was for extra cooling, he sent me a mail about it, will see if I can find it and do a quick translation.
Aperantly its 2 relays that causes this click noise, and he swapped one and put some soundproofing around the other and mine is much more silent now. I can still hear it when I do listen for it but its a lot better.

This mechanic also told me that there have been a few revisions for this component, not sure he meant in general for all the VAG cars that uses the engine.
