More Warning Lights than I Know What to do With!

Morning all,

My FR550 TDI has thrown one major strop this weekend...I have a flashing coil light, filter warning light and engine warning light on...oh and what feels like about 40bhp, limited revs and no turbo...Any ideas what it could be and is it likely to be covered on my warranty...and how long I'll be without it?? I've done 6k in it since Jan so was amazed to see the famous DPF light come on (although it's been on 3 or 4 times in the past) again after it's had a long run...Anyways, I'd be really grateful for any advice!

Hi, My experience so far

I have got an 09 fr550 also. I have had it at the garage twice.
1st time i needed a new sensor for the DPF filter and the wiring changed.
2nd time i needed a new sensor and a forced regen.
After doing some reading on here i realised i was being to nice to my car and not getting the dpf warm enough to burn off the soot.
So now once a week on my commute to work i drive at 70 in 5th and keep the revs up around 2500 and this should be doing the job.
I have enjoyed hassle free motoring for months since doing it. I love my car but as soonas the warranty is up im getting rid of it, like a ticking time bomb that DPF.

cheers dude, tbh i'm of the same thinking; love the car to bits but I feel I can't bank on it anymore and with the cost of fuel I'm seriously looking at trading it in and getting a frugal petrol motor. Had to cut a camping trip short because of it this weekend so it's defo in the dog house!!

same thing happened to me sensors, covered under warranty done in for a morning, no longer have a diesel changed to a petrol car.

yeah it's ****! lol! I've only had the car since Jan and tbh it's been a bit of a let down - had warning lights on from day dot with it but it's always righted itself...on autotrader now looking for something new...just dont know what - suggestions welcome...poss a scooby estate?

It's in "limp mode" - your manual should describe this. It's basically to allow the engine to protect itself against damage. Likely that the DPF has got clogged up to the point of being unable to regen itself. Will require a visit to the dealers unfortunately to get it sorted, however should be covered under warranty (mine was). They will perform a manual regeneration. There are many many threads on this in this forum - search is your friend!

Tell them that you have driven according to the recommended guidelines in the manual (look these up so you can quote them if asked) and as such you deem this a defect which should be covered by warranty. For them to ask you to pay £180 without even diagnosing the problem is pretty piss poor IMO. And even if you did have to pay, £180 is pretty excessive - I'm sure most dealers are cheaper than this.
I'd be tempted to call another dealership to be honest. Stress the fact that you have done several long motorway drives, and when you saw the DPF light you did as recommended in the manual which is to drive at X speed at Y revs for Z time. That is assuming the DPF light came on before it went into limp mode? The bottom line is that if this is a sensor then it should be covered under warranty. If it's driving style then they will try to wriggle out of it any which way they can - don't let them.

As a final option, depending on the soot level you could always try and get hold of someone around Leeds with Vagcom who will do you a regen & check any error codes. Vagcom recommend only doing this < 70% full (I think it's 70 anyway) and I doubt anyone would want to risk burning your car out if it's higher lol! Best bet - find yourself a dealership who cares about you as a customer, it sounds like your current one doesn't.

Cheers fella, just called another dealer and they seem to think it's a sensor failure and doesnt require a regen and even if it did they said it'd be 150 all in, pretty pissed off with SEAT today, the service has been piss poor up to press! Called the dealer back it's in with and they claim it's all working and that the other dealer is wrong so a call to SEAT UK is on the cards...

...And SEAT say i'll invalidate the warranty if I drive it again...so I'm going to have to get it towed...grrrrr

That price sounds about what I paid (£180), to get a faulty DPF Pressure sensor replaced PLUS the Regen.
Had all the lights on the dash that you describe, early in this Thread.

yeah i thought it was a lot...i'm really getting annoyed over this one! I've called the garage i bought it from and they're seeing what they can do (a non-SEAT dealer) but they're limted because they didn't provide any after sales on it. I think it's crap that SEAT dont cover such a common problem...particually when I've done as the manual says!

The non-SEAT garage might not provide any after sales on your new car, but it should still come with a 'limited warranty' (all garages usually offer this)?

Could be worse, a replacement DPF Filter will set you back over £1000 .

well just come off the phone to them and they've offered to look at it for free and if it requires the DPF regen they'll charge me £40 - can't argue with that!

sounds like my jct garage that haha... i know how ya feel though i had none stop problems for the first 3 months but never had a problem since (touch wood)

To be honest, if it's a pressure sensor then it should be done for free. I'd ask them why the problem has occurred and if they have replaced the sensor demand that it is done under warranty. I, and many others on here have had the sensor replaced FOC.

UPDATE: the dealer I bought it from hasn't been able to fix it despite their best efforts so it's off to a specialist tomorrow who's sorting it for fifty-odd quid. I'm just worried with all this running around I might have f**ked the DPF totally and will need it replacing - how quickly do they fill up???

Is it under warranty still then or not?! If so then you should really demand that it is kept in until it is fixed and work in completed under warranty. I know it can make you sound a bit of a tw@t but at the end of the day you are well within your rights and they will walk all over you otherwise.

And as for them suggesting it be taken to a specialist - surely there is nobody more so a specialist than a SEAT workshop!!? No offence but it sounds like they're taking you for a ride mate. Probably too late now but be persistent in future - if they say no then ask them to speak with SEAT UK, speak with them yourself etc.
