Done 585 miles now and I think my mpg is arriving about 32mpg. Of those 585, 160 miles were motorway driving the best I've achieved is 49mpg in one run.

I have the same problem with the 1.2 TSi Leon

I've just posted in another thread, but basically it's shocking.

I have managed to consistently beat the combined figure in all of my previous cars just by driving normally, yet I've only managed 41mpg in the Leon driving like an eco machine. Driving 'normally' the best result I've had has been 38.5mpg as compared to the book figure of 52.3.

At least my local dealer are trying... though I suspect that is at least in part due to the fact that I work for a firm of solicitors and that I WILL reject the car if it isn't rectified.

They have phoned me today to inform me that Seat have remotely checked the vehicle and applied a software update, but as a sceptical type I am inclined to think that this will either have simply altered the trip computer readout (which won't help them since I always go by the pump) or they will have lowered the power output, which since it's slow enough to start with I will be furious about!

I hope I'm wrong

I have the 1.2 tsi and my best is 40MPG, but I normally average around 36 MPG .
Have done about 1800 miles...

The only reasons I can come up with is that I do lots of motorway driving, and keep around the 70MPH mark, but also kitted the car with 17" alloys. Since these are a good bit heavier and the tires aren't the best it prob has an effect on the overall consumption...

My 1.2 TSI, start-stop 5 door is now averaging around 47 mpg after about 700 miles from new. On a level motorway at 70 mph on the speedometer the trip computer shows almost exactly 50 mpg average.

It's a UK SE model so has 185/60 tyres on 15 inch wheels. Generally, wider tyres have slightly higher rolling resistance but I believe the UK Sport and SE models have the same claimed fuel consumption despite the wider tyres and larger (16 inch) wheels of the Sport model.

As I believe I mentioned earlier somewhere, the 1.2 TSI is a stratified injection engine which means it can run with a very weak mixture when the engine load is low. When the load is higher (accelerating for example) the mixture will get much richer. I believe this makes it very sensitive to driving style.

i know the book figures are way off, and im not defending them but if you wanted a car with good MPG returns, surely you would have bought an ibiza or any car with a diesel engine rather than a petrol tsi engine? or even a petrol which isnt a tsi??

get it mapped, you'll get more pwoer and better mpg.

Just so happens i know of a tuner who is after a 1.2TSI to develop a remap for it.....................

Ive just had my 1.4TSI remapped at no cost to myself as i was the development car.

Jhouse - In my case I nearly did buy a diesel, in fact the diesel version of the Ibiza! Luckily, I came across this forum and the extensive problems people were having with the DPF when the car was used on short trips . . . high fuel consumption, rough running etc etc.

Our daily commute is the 3.5 miles back and forth to the hospital; so as people were having huge problems with the diesel version on short trips, we went for the 1.2TSi petrol instead.

I get 38 to 43mpg in terms of measured consumption (not using the computer) from a 1.2TSi with the auto box, but given the sort of driving we do - stop/start rush hour crawl - I can't say I expected much better.

If you live in a flat area with light and fairly slow traffic I'd expect to get a good bit more - sadly, we don't!

You are dead right, a Diesel delivers a lot better MPG.
But according to the book the 1.2 tsi isn't far off in comparison, and taking into account what people say here about the 1.6 Tdi I thought it wouldn't be such a difference..

I'm not complaining here, but I just think it wouldn't hurt if SEAT and many others actually gave more real life figures, or at least split the numbers into more sections such as.

Extra Urban/Urban/motorway/Revhappy Redlights/ I love to overtake everyone Urban /Im sure it read 100Mph officer

i agree mate the way they test it is ballbags, i suppose i found this though a long time before i bought my cupra, so i knew what to expect. luckily on my long commute to uni i get around 4-5 less mpg than a 1.2 clio - which i can live with seeing as its a million times nicer/quicker/comfier/better looking/better at pulling women etc etc

I've had my 1.2 TSI Start + Stop Sport for nearly two weeks now, and I'm averaging 52mpg on 15mile trip to college. With my best being 64 cruising around 80 on the motorway.

It's a 5 door too if that makes any difference.

Flippin hell, 64 MPG....U managed to find aircraft fuel with 120 octane or something to achieve that ?
I have a 5 door too, not getting close to your numbers.

Depends on what women you are after, i'd say the Gilfs would be swarming around if you were in a 1.2 clio :cartman:

Lol, yeah no idea how I managed that tbh.

I only use normal petrol as well, it was a fairly short stint on the motorway too. Only a 30min drive or something.

I guess the Start/Stop must be worth 5 to 10%, depending on traffic flow? I don't have that on my car, but that's still a big gap.

I reckon Gahhh must be really laid back, either that or he needs to teach us all how to drive ;-)

I've done over 3000 miles and still the best I've had is about 51mpg and that was doing 50 with cruise control on a motorway. On average I get about 40mpg which is way off the official figure of 55mpg!

I've had the car for about one week or so (200km driven) and the best I've had has been 40mpg. Though, that was when I was driving at 40kmh at some 1200 rpm for some 15 minutes. It's almost impossible to get any decent figures when driving to work or school. The highway has constant traffic so I have to stop all the time + I love the acceleration so I average some 36mpg.

I've recently posted this in the thread "your fuel/mpg info.. please add yours!"
=======
I've now done about 800 miles in the 1.2 TSI 5-door SE so can report:-

First tank - 26 to 364 miles 36.05 litres, 7.93 galls - 42.6 mpg
Second tank - 364 to 794 miles 41.2 litres, 9.06 galls - 47.5 mpg

Overall, 768 miles, 16.99 galls - 45.2 mpg

All trips of less than 15 miles except for two of about 100 miles each on the second tank.

What about your driving syle? Do you drive on mostly highways or roads with traffic lights? Thanks ;)

"What about your driving syle? Do you drive on mostly highways or roads with traffic lights? Thanks"

I guess you'd call it fairly light traffic with some traffic lights. I try to drive economically though not necessarily very slowly. I lift off and slow when approaching red traffic lights rather than brake. Down here in South Devon it's very hilly so I go down hills with the accelerator fully released which allows the fuel cutoff to work (instant mpg goes to ----), and the energy recuperation system to charge the battery. The mpg indication takes a dive when going up the hills - down into the 20's quite often.

I turn off the stop-start when in queues of slow moving traffic but generally let it work at traffic lights and junctions.

On the 100 mile run there was about 3/4 motorway. I tried to maintain 70 mph on the speedometer and the trip computer was indicating almost exactly 50 mpg. Conditions were good - no wind, dry and a warmish day. I think the 100 miles was about 50 mpg overall, average speed about 50 mph overall.
