wen ive washed the car or if it rains heavy wen i open the door loads of water is sat wer the sill plate is on every door does any 1 else have this prob

this seems to be about something diffrent the water seems to sit on the door ledge

THIS is the reason why you have water sat on the door sill, before long you will have a swimming pool if you dont fix it, in fact if you check your carpet, you may find that its damp, if it is, then you have about 10 million gallons of water soaked into the sound deadening underneath. THe reason why water is sat on your door sill, is either the drain holes are blocked under the door or as everyone will testify, your door seals have perished, check the guide that Salsheikh has kindly put up and learn how to fix it. Its the bain of owning one of these Leons. :D

Mick, as Lee says, this is the start of it, it WILL get worse and the water will then start to come into the car and flood your carpets. Sort it out before its too late. It doesnt cost much and will only take about an hour to fix all 4 doors.

it is true mate mine started like that then a swimming pools but was winter so i could pick the block of ice out the foot well but its taken months to get it all dry properly and the smell of damp to go.! i still go out every few hours now when it rains just to open then close all the doors coz its a pain in the 5h itter trying to get rid of that damp and smell, its fine now but still check it all the time.!!

Consider this, the amount of water that can sit on your door sill is about 1 mm thick. Now consider that the sponge underneath the carpets is about 2 inches thick! The water will be seen on the door sills long before your carpets will see any sign of water. In the meantime, the sponge will simply be drinking it up.

My car does exactly the same, after a storm or after washing the car I get sill water but dry carpets. Give it a prolonged soaking (over a winter for example) and eventually I'll get puddles in the rear footwells.

It's just one of those things that any mark 4 Golf car will eventually succumb to.

i only had wet carpet on the passenger side. Found a thread on here where you make small cuts in the seal on the door sill, seemed strange at the time but no water collects on the sill now and no more wet carpet.

Just had a look for that thread and seems like it works but I think it looks bit messy, might look for a hole punch to do it or just silicon the seal in door

I noticed water on my driver side door sill last night, printed off the guide and gonna sort it asap, don't want wet smelly carpets.

I did mine about 2 or 3 months ago with exactly the same symptoms, carpets have only just stopped smelling!

Febreeze helps a bit!

A tiny trickle of water sat on the door seals is definitely this - take the door cards off and spray the car with water if you don't believe us - you'll see the water running in somewhere!

btw another pointer is if after it's been raining and you open the door - if you get a giant *splosh* and wet feet, the leak's really bad.

If you have water on the sill it is fine it is just water coming from the drain holes at the bottom of the door.
If you have water on the inside on or in the carpets then it needs the inner door panels resealing.
