Hmm i haven't heard about this vag-com thing before or wasn't aware that i had to recode the standard one as well! I took it to a car key specialist to get the key cut and he tested it and confirmed the key was working and giving off a signal.

Do you have any step by step instructions on how to do it from scratch mate?
The only instructions I could give on how to do it would be with VCDS, I've never used a sequence of put the key in this lock, press and hold for x seconds etc.

In VCDS, you would go to address 46 central convenience -> channel 01 -> change the value from (in most cases) 1 to 2 -> press TEST -> press lock button on keyfob 1 for 1 second, do the same with keyfob 2 within the next 15 seconds -> close the controller and check function of keys.
My boot button wouldnt work on the 2nd hand 3 button fob i bought, its only now ive bought new key section that it works on the boot button
Maybe it depends on part numbers... mine ends in DA, I know there's some that end in AH, AG etc.

My key ends in DA, but the boot button on my key doesn't work. I read somewhere this may be because i don't have selective unlocking enabled.

But i don't have VCDS to enable it :(:(:(!!!

My new key ends DA - 1J0 959 753 DA - this works fine on boot release
I dont have anti hijack enabled - 2002 model came like that
Il dig out the old key number later
Ive always used the old method of 1 key in the ignition while locking the drivers door
Think its the old one in the ignition
New one lock drivers door then unlock using button

I don't have selective unlocking enabled either, so to be honest I don't think that's your problem. :(

My new key is the same part number as yours.

The only time I've used the above key in door method was on my parent's A6, when I cocked the remote central locking up and couldn't get the keys to match again. It worked. However, later on I realised what I was doing wrong when I couldn't get the keys to match

I only found out this week that my boot button does actually work. I was only pressing it before and it wouldnt work. You actually have to hold it :O!! So all mine work, result.

Got yours sorted?

Yes mate, I bought the key in the first of the links provided. Then bought the bladed bit elsewhere. Are you going to re-use the bladed bit from the other flipkey? If not then yes you'll need the lot in the second link. The second link is better really as it's a complete key you could even get the blank immobiliser chip coded to your car rather than taking one out of one of the old keys.

Well Chris??

summer detailing starting soon??
Hopefully! Trying to decide whether to refurb the wheels or detail it first...
I am to be driving it over the summer :)
:p
course he wont. dont even pop in when you're taking it. it will be a far better surprise for his car to disappear on him one day ;) haha

Apart from it's probably going to be the other way round and I shall disappear on the car! parents keep taking the mickey out of me when I look for new bits (mats etc), they say "can you get those in pink"... hinting at allowing my sister to learn to drive in it when I go away! I'll never want it back if that happens, the car just won't be the same. :(

If you like your car in one piece, don't let a young girl learn to drive in it!

I'm friends with girls who drive into curbs on straight roads ffs! The clutch will be destroyed, scuffed bumpers and curbed alloys to say the least... I don't mean to offend any of the good women drivers on SCN, but I'm simply going off what I've seen at my college!!
