Went to pump up my tyres today and when I plugged the compressor into the socket, nothing happened! We tried just the ignition on and with the engine running, but nothing happens! It's definitely the car as we had just pumped up my Son's tyres and it worked fine in his car! My car is a 2011 Sport - is the socket live? Presumably it should be!

Fused already?! The car is only two months old and I've never even used the socket!

Maybe your pump draws more current than the fuse for your 12v socket? This would fuse it straight off.

Don't forget that a 12v socket will only be say 10amps whereas a cigar lighter socket will be maybe 20-25amps.

I think its a cigarette lighter as the whole thing pops out - there are two different sorts in the manual - the cigarette one that pulls right out and the 12v socket that has a flappy cover.

Yeah, we even tried it with the engine running, but nothing happens! As soon as you plug it into my son's car the display lights up, but is totally unresponsive in my Ibiza!

I tried an fm transmitter MP3 player thingy in there and that didn't work either, so I phoned the dealer and they said to just pop in and they will test the socket. They also said I should have another socket in the boot, but I thought that only came as standard on the ST version and with one of the packs that I don't have.

Iv had two ibizas and the cigar lighters on both cars packed up after the first couple of uses . Checked the fuses n they were fine I just thought it might b a common problem :/

It was the one and only time I tried to use it. Took her back in today and the chap had a look and tested it. Seems that the 'earth' is not working so they've ordered me a new socket.

Concerning flappy covers!!

I think the cars with stop-start have the plastic plug (mine does) and the ones without have the flappy cover. That is probably because the flappy cover would interfere with the stop-start switch.

I expect the sockets themselves are all the same.

My beloved Candy is currently at the dealers having her new socket fitted. Missing her already, lol! Seems strange without her shiny whiteness on the drive. Took her in at 9am this morning and am now counting the minutes until she is safely delivered back where she belongs!

Update

Well, the dealer had the car all day and phoned me at about 3.30pm to say that the car was ready but another part needed to be ordered. I told them that the part had already been ordered and I was told that whoever it was had ordered the wrong part - I am presuming a flappy one arrived rather than the plug type, so I'm still waiting for a fix for her.
