Hi Guys,

Initially when I bought my LCR it had a brilliant setup with 2 amps, sub, DVD player, PS2, flip down TV etc.

When we swapped headunits over, the guy that swapped them put the sub wire into the front left speaker, which caused it to blow.

Now I need a decent set of fronts - any recommendations will be brilliant. I have a Alpine headunit CDA9887R if that helps at all.

Cheers,

Gaz.

i would recommend getting some component speakers with tweeters and 6,5" woofers. and maybe place the tweeters higher up on the door or in the a-piller.

i have rainbow component system with 6.5" Woofers ready to go in my leon.
rainbow have speakers in all price ranges.

if you want some bigger woofers, some 8" woofers can fit in the door. bot they are not that common.

and ou would need some speaker fitting/plastic rings to fit other then standart speakers in the door, you can get them in 5,25" and 6,5" and 8" if you dont have them already.

the alpine CDA-9887R is a great head unit, if you still use the subwoofer i would recommend you using the HPF crossover in the headunit on you speakers.

Tbh I have kept the components standard in mine. I only have an alpine hu and sound quality is comparable to my old car which had sub/amp in boot with alpine components and components amp under passenger seat.

personally i think the LC and LCR have a good standard speakers. with an aftermarket head unit their as good as any normal aftermarket speakers! Unless you go for components

These are the mounting rings I received in the box.

Also here is a picture of one of the VW Golf Mk4 adapters I bought (which I thought I needed) I think these will fit to the Leon. (Excuse the feet lol)

Do I need the adapters to fit the speakers to the car?? I've never done this sort of thing before, also if I've got the adapters, do I need the mounting rings? I also wanted the car to look as OEM as possible, will these speakers fit behind the original 'grill' in the door panel or will I have to have the new JBL covers showing?

Help needed ASAP please guys! (Sorry to be so thick with ICE).

the OEM plastic rings/adapter in your door, inside on the metal will only fit OEM speakers, then yes you need other/new rings if you want other speakers.

the plastic ring/adapter is fitted with 4 rivets you have to drill out.

So the adapters I've bought are pointless then? I just need the rings that come with the speakers?

The rings that came with your speakers are for different screw mounting positions and the spacer rings you have purchased separately would be used to bring the speaker out if they are deeper than your originals. If your looking good sound quality you could add some sound deadening to the rear of the speaker, silent coat is a very good product at a good price and it will improve the mid bass response of your new speakers.

no you need the adabters.

correct

no not correct, you have to remove OEM spacer/rings/adapter, and then mount new spacer/rings/adapter you have, and fit the speaker on this.

you can see gray metal plate, then plastic adabter, then speaker.

you replace adabter on the car with the one you have.

So if the replacement speakers are the same diameter what are the spacer/rings/adaptors for?

Most spacer/rings/adaptors i have used are to bring the speakers forward to stop the window striking the magnet or if the speakers are too deep to fit the doors.

only OEM speakers fit the one on the car. all other speakers need other adabter ring, those adabters you can get in 5,25" and 6,5" and 8"

if they are 6,5"" adapters and your speakers is 6,5" then yes.

if you got 5,25" adaptors and you have 6,5" speakers then they will not fit.

Yes both speakers and adapters are 6.5" - ok nice one. Now as mentioned above, will I have to use the JBL covers or can I just put door card back on with the OEM speaker grill/cover?
