It's metallic pearl paint. 4 coats of black base, 6 coats of pearl finished with 3 coats of clear lacquer. Picture is crap, but they really do sparkle.

None of it is heat resistant so will see how the year goes.

Ill get the Hammerite stuff then! I noticed with the halfords stuff you dont need primer. Did you use primer? and does 1 coat look good or does it need 2?

I take it this is the stuff? If it is then i know i dont need primer,

thats the stuff mate and no you don't need it as you said and i only did one coat and still looks like the day i did it just make sure you give it a good clean and i mean good i used alloy wheel cleaner to clean the baked on grime and then make sure it is rinsed and DRY before painting then use a steady hand and a lot of time to get a good result you won't be disappointed :D

I have always used Halfords high temp engine paint

It has an enamal finish so it dries with a really smooth finish and easy to clean. Really strong red too so looks good

Volvic, those brakes look incredible, hope they last with them not being heatproof though.

any chance of a "how to remove and replace your brakes" guide for a noob like me who's quite daunted by the prospect of disassembling my brakes, and reassembling properly so that they still work.

I know you can paint them on the car, but i'd rather take them off and make sure they're done perfectly all over, not paint over the springs and bolts etc etc

I had a look for a thread on how to take calipers off, but couldnt find one. Can anyone help? Or put somethin up on how to do it?

Quite an easy job.

1. Jack up car & remove wheel

2. Remove anti rattle spring

3. Undo the 2 slider bolts to free the caliper

4. Take caliper off the carrier & remove brake pads
( If you are taking the caliper off completely you will now need to undo the brake hose )
( and catch any brake fluid that comes out - you will also need to fully bleed the brakes )
( when you assemble them again )

5. Undo the two carrier bolts and remove carrier.

I think ill just leave the calipers on, i dont fancy having to bleed the breaks, not a part of the car I fancy playing about with. Im guessing painting whilst still on wont cause any trouble in the futer? Like taking the calipers off and changing pads ect?
