Now remapped

Revo standard stage 1 remap today - Gone from 141 to 180bhp and from 236 to 290lb/ft. Totally different car, not had time to really get to grips with it, but very happy with the results so far.

Won't be getting rid of it now, that's put a smile back on my face:).

£480 I paid too much really. I used David Cook in Oldham, they're Revo and Seat dealers. But it's only a few miles out of the way and I don't need a day off work or to mess about on a Saturday when I've already got a lot on. I considered P-torque, Jabba and ***** (I suppose I could have an STS unit), but they're a full day for me to get there and back. Awesome were quoting the same price as Cook's (though they've a great offer on £150 for generic Tdi PD stage 1 maps).

Nice one mate!

I got mine remapped (but went with the BlueFin) and god is it fast. Only trouble is after a week or so you'll get used to it and forget how fast it really is. So you need to remind yourself every so often how quick it is.. if you could possibly find a way of doing that :)

That's good to hear you're getting on well with BlueFin, as that's my favourite option as mine is a lease car ;)

I also have a lease car via my company and I'm considering purchasing the Bluefin, can the dealer tell if the car has been "fiddled" with after a bluefin remap?

For example, I plug in the bluefin and remap it. Then when it's due for service I reset it to factory default. Can they read the history of what has been done?

I'm a complete noob to this so be gentle with me....

I'm tempted to try this, but how does this affect your insurance? I'm assuming it goes up a lot if you tell them and if you don't it's a big risk?

I told my insurance for obvious reasons, and they just said yeah a lot of people do that, that's just an extra £40 please.

I really wouldnt advise mapping and not telling them because in the event of an accident you could be technically uninsured.

For this to happen, the insurance co. would have to send someone out to examine the car.

You'd still be insured for RTA purposes. The insurance co would come after you for material non-disclosure and then get you to pay an additional premium, unless they don't cover modified cars at all which would be the only way they could refuse to deal with the poliyholder's part of the claim. They would always have to deal with the 3rd party element of the claim. They could pursue you for the cost of the damages afterwards. How many times have you heard of an insurance co suing it's own customer?

Despite this I've told mine, for the sake of a few extra quid it's not worth the hassle.

I am looking at the DTUK box, I assume it's a case of applying the box - starting up and away you go? Or is it one for program and de-program settings?

Any help appreciated,

Cheers

It is a transformation and it is just plug & play, abiet a bit expensive compared to a remap Andrew CEO gave me the RR setting they used on the test car giving a indicated 210/212hp and loads of torque !! Certainly the >mpg is a bonus, gen. improvement over std is around 8/10mpg [ Web access is a bit restrictive due to blue screen errors ?@~!-so bare with me]

Thanks, i would be hopeful for 170+ or so out of my 143 model..plus of course better mpg. I assume the car could cope with that relatively easy?

The VAG units have NO problem handling the modest increase in power. You just have to be more careful when you put your foot down so the tyres don't get hammered !! [ note there are two DTUK units I have the one with the turbo pressure increase line/cable which will give the max power across the range]
The pin settings for the unit with turbo cable are : ecu map 3 turbo pressure 1

On the tyres note...the company can worry about that ;)

The focus ST I've just sold did 6000 miles with a set of conti,s on the front . Hoping for more than that from the Exeo when it's tuned/ chipped up.

Oldoiler,
I see you've had a few Leon's and had them chipped / remapped. I have a 2010 FR 170CR TDI with the DSG box. Have you had any experience with this model & is there any issues with the DSG box puting out more than 350nm torque?
Cheers,
Steve

Cheers, Steve[/QUOTE]The DSG proved no problems, but since I had the remap I beleive you can also have the DSG reprofiled to match the remap [my remap was over a year ago]. The main problems now is the new MOT tests, which may be too tight 3yrs down the line with a remap ???
