Afternoon people!

Looking for some help/advice with pressed plates.

Has anyone had any previous experience with anyone to avoid buying from or got any positive recommendations? As i dont really wanna buy some that are piss poor quality or look terrible!

Any links and/or pics of your own would be appreciated :)

Muchos thankos

James

Just make sure you get some with the name and postcode of the place printing them, and also the british standards mark...I've been pulled 3 times for my Dubmeister ones, but not once have I been handed a fine after closer inspection of the plates.

on my old saxo I had french style pressed ones for about a year. I was never pulled and they passed the MOT even though they were a different font and had no postcode on them.
Im thinking of getting some in maybe a german or french font from http://www.craigsplates.com/

Yeah it probably does depend on your area along with how you act on the road, one of my mates had a completely standard corsa but drove round blasting tunes and got more attention from the po po for it lol

Trust me, with the traffic cops round here you can drive like a saint and they'll still pull you for pressed plates lol
I got followed by one to a petrol station sunday for it.
I'd get legal ones so you have a leg to stand on if they pull you, but that's just me :)

I would always recommend dubmeister. You get what you pay for. Saying that I didnt care about the legality of my plates. I ran Stadt stickers on mine too for 2 years with no pulls :)

*******s lol, one way to think of it is your area has less crime than mine so they need more stuff to do.

but anyway them eBay ones look ok to me too

Love the look of your motor lad, looks bang tidy!

Or save yourself £12 and get the ebay link i posted. They are 100% legal. Went through an MOT yesterday no problem.

Dubmeister are just a rip off

cheers pal, i was originally looking at the dubmeister ones but cba to send off my details etc for them to do them. the link you've given actually look really good quality and all. have they got the necessary markings on to make them legal then?

Haha I'm 30 now, my days of boy-racing are mainly behind me! Yeah we just have very picky coppers round here, Stockport/Manchester area, so it says it all really lol

Sods law just kicked in.

Got pulled over 20 mins ago because "you have pressed plates"... We had a nice discussion :)

Initially he said it was cuz the plates were pressed, then he said their was no British Standards marking on them...showed him there was and that was all in order.

Then he said.."ahh they're not reflective", the other cop came over and said "ooh they are reflective".

Then he decided it's because they had Dublin written on the bottom and not a UK mark (even though they have the British Standards marking).

Eventually he just went back to "pressed plates are illegal, get them changed as soon as possible".

Fun Fun Fun.

They don't have a leg to stand on if they have all the markings, if they give you a fine complain, they should be taking it up with the companies producing them, not the driver who has bought them as 'legal' plates.
They've told me to change mine in the past..I haven't, can be assured if you went through a speed trap the fine would still find it's way to your address.

Just had an email convo with a police officer. While he didn't give a definitive response I guess I'm a little clearer on one aspect.

He stated:

As long as the registration mark supplier is registered and the plate adheres to the regulations is it [sic] legal.
I checked the DVLA site for the guy selling pressed plates on ebay and I couldn't find him as a registered supplier with the DVLA..that's not to say he isn't..but his 'signature' below the Registration Number doesn't appear on the DVLA database. So I think if you're caught with that plate, the recent legislation saying that the supplier has to be authorised by the DoT would catch you out.

For that reason, I won't be risking using my pressed plate for the time being.

However, in the same breath he stated that he looked at the dubmeister site and said that

on the face of it, they appear to meet the standards of font, size, spacing of letters, etc. for the registration mark in the UK.
...but that he would have to see them physically in person to confirm this as he wasn't sure about the Retro-Reflectivness of them.

Taking into account the fact that Dubmeister are registered with the DoT as Registered/Authorised plate makers. I would assume that you would be safe with the Dubmeisters.

All in all it's a bit annoying as the only reason I was told to change my plate was because it was pressed metal (which no one seems to be sure about). But if the police wanted to get technical they could have said it was because the supplier isn't on the DVLA's registered supplier list.

So now, I'm waiting to hear back from the Police Officer as to whether plates have to be made from acryllic to be road legal.

Also emailed the DVLA with some pics of my plate including close ups of the markings to ask them if they thought they were legal.

Good on you for taking it further mate, really interesting to read up on, as a fellow user of pressed plates who gets pulled on occasion for them!

Keep us updated :)
