59 plate
had the car for 3 weeks
no problems at all
previous owner did have missfire, got solved with some uprated spark plugs

Ibiza CUPRA 11 reg (June) Steering whell out of alignment when car picked up from new.

3 Weeks after picked up bluetooth module died and had to be replaced.

Nothing else.

My 10 plate with 21k millage when picked up from dealers, had it 2 months and the turbo and crankshaft replaced under warranty.

Then it was serviced free cause they didnt do that when purchased even though the car was 6 months overdue a service/ 1000 miles over!

Then Pistons went, damaging engine and sucking parts into the intercooler which was replaced under warranty and had it back 3 weeks if that.

And this has been since mid december last year since i purchased the car.

Also its the car Jay1990 mentioned in his post.

Friends FR (10 plate with circa 20k on it) has had nothing but trouble. Had 3/4 misfires. Dealer wouldnt fix even though we showed them the fault code logs. Then his Crankshaft and turbo went, Got all that replaced(circa 3k I think he said-seat paid obvs) about a month afterwards, he hadnt been checking his dipstick and when I eventually made him check it was bone dry, We went and bought 2L of oil and that just put it on the dipstick, he drove it rather hard though and im guessing running with no oil the damage had already been done, Sparks, Lots of white smoke, explosion, oil comming out the bottom and the top of the engine. Diagnosis... Disentergrated Pistons and god knows what other damage. Replacement engine.

I wouldnt of said that hard, it was always warmed up and cooled down before and after a little sprint but thats what they car was designed for i hope :/

Also it just has a service about 2 or 3 weeks before pistons went so i wouldnt of expected to drink all its oil.

no probs (touch wood) although last week whilst accelarating hard in 4th i noticed the revs dropped significantly twice.....

No real issues. Failed to start once due to flat battery and used 2 litres of oil in 5k miles. I'm in the "worried well" camp!

Need to add another one of my friends (10 plate Cupra) to the list but cant vote twice. Reckon it will be a new engine sounds like his current engine is mullered =|

really daft question, when you take it in to get the software updated, how much is it, and how long does it take, as i have a 08 plate 1.4 tsi and i dont think it has had any sort of update

Software updates that have came down from SEAT will be free. Shouldnt take long- its literally plug a laptop in, upload new software, run a dianostic, maybe a quick test drive and your away. They may have done it when its been serviced. Have you had your 08 plate from new? not had any problems? As for hardware updates like piston rings(for example) they probs wont do anything until something happens, and they will say as its out of warranty to go away. But if you show them the number of cars on here with issues. Im sure they will sort you out.

lol I know Dan! Its werid. Not seen you or your car since you got it back yet! I miss the sea grey and the FR wheels.

I think its a combo of luck and being very strict with lookingafter the car when its cold. Driving to and from work is only ten mins and never warms up so I cant ever give anyone a go on my way to work. Its hard but Its worth it. it never goes over 2000-2500rpm driving to work lol.

That gives me a new issue though of Bore wash, where the oil that protects the pistons/cylinder walls ect is washed off by the petrol that is injected twice as much when cold to get the car warmed up quicker. This can glaze the clyinders leading to excess oil consumption/worn piston rings.

Fair enough, the cars still alive, heard a few worrying sounds on sunday when i went to a meet at doncaster but its disapeared now.

Hopefully will be fine becauase im going to Plymouth this sunday/monday.

Cars still running ok and will have to meet up sometime soon.

Also Olli's is having a new engine as his had a problem with compression in Piston number 2.

Had a 59 plate with around 13,500 miles on it before the engine started misfiring.

Had numerous other problems with it after getting it serviced, which was only after 6000 miles, so not sure if they contributed to the engine issues or not.

I currently have a 2009 / 59 plate Boc. Turbo packed in after 1500miles. Was replaced under warranty. Never had another issue after that - no problems at all! I now have 28500 miles on the clock.

New complete engine (top and bottom) inc turbo and gear box. I have had the dog car of all dog cars. Purchased from and worked on initially by complete mongs. The dealer it went to to be sorted out for once and for all have been absolutely frikken chicken awesome. I cannot say thank you enough to them.

Enquired about a Polo GTi at our local VW dealer and asked a couple of questions regarding misfires and excessive oil consumption, got the reply below.

I have been able to find out more information from our senior technician. Over time we have seen this problem 3 times, all on relatively high mileage cars. It seems that a change in the ignition settings via the ECU programming is the fix, potentially affected cars were called back under warranty. To the best of our knowledge the problem affected cars built up to 2009.

Bore wash shouldn't be a problem, as the fuel should be ignited and burnt before it's got time to wash away any oil.
My understanding is that bore wash occurs when combustion doesn't take place, due to a misfire for example, leaving surplus fuel within the cylinder.

Oh right well thats good :)

Thanks for clearing that up. I must of slightly misread what was going on with it :)

Had a few miss fires but thats from booting it when its still fairly cold.

Other than that spot on!
