Just a quick question..
Can the rad fans be removed from the bay without removing the bumper.
Had a quick look and there may be enough room if you take the slam panel off...

Anyone done this before?

I don't think so. Seat practice is to remove the bumper, fix long rods in two of the bolt holes, unbolt the radiator carrier and slide it forwards on those rods. This gives you space to reach the fan fixings and to pull out the fans, complete with shrouds.

The bolt thread is M8 coarse, and you could duplicate the special tools using studding.

What do you mean by the "slam panel"?

Yes. I pulled the whole assembly out underneath and new fans went in same way.

Only one bruised thumb. :p

Cheers guys - Gulf, i take it you just removed the undertray to do this?
im gonna look at removing the slam panel and see how much space there is then

Slam panel is the panel going across the front joining the two wings, bonnet catch lives there.
Bonnet "slams" down on it ;)

Ah, what Seat calls the "lock carrier".

The "slam panel" is not separate from the radiator mounting, and that whole assembly is what I was talking about earlier. If you don't have the special tools or an equivalent, then the radiator and refrigerant hoses need to be detached otherwise you are hanging the whole weight of the radiator assembly off the hoses.

my plastic undertray fell off during a trackday. And It will stay off. Funny thing, I noticed up to 10c lower oil temp with undertray gone....

Are we talking about the same thing matey.... The metal panel that goes across the top of the headlights. I take it the rad is attached from underneath

It's just 4 torx screws and 2 wiring plugs and the whole cowling will come down the way

Yes.

No, as I said, the whole radiator mounting, which Seat call the lock carrier, is one piece.

Item 1.
