Will a manifold designed for a 1.8 Longitudinal engine fit a Transverse engine ? Someone is trying to convince me that it will fit

im not sure really. i just bought a t3/t4 port and polished manifold and didnt even think to check about the transverse part. it said it was fot the 1.8t so i bought it lol.
weather or not its any good ill find out eventually.

Which one did you buy? PM me mate

I doubt it the tranverse ones are much more compact as they are restricted on room by hitting the bulkhead.
Longitudinal has much more room to have larger smoother bends

I think its longitudinal only for the leon.

when i was comparing them on ebay they look so similar when it comes to ko3s fittment. some look more central and others look offset. but i have not seen a equal lenght transverse only a longitudinal 1. it seems when going for a t3 or t4 fittment they dont mention what 1 it fits so im guessing that the head fitment are the same

I might be wrong, but I think Audi have their engines longitudinally? Or at least the older ones did, not sure what they do now.

As rsmith says, even if it does physically fit the engine and you can get it into the car it's likely the connections off to the exhaust will be in the wrong place.

longti mount puts turbo between runner #1,#2 and transverse between runners #3,#

it will bolt to head of course but thats about as far as you will get on fitment.. nothing else will line up

well thats fair enough. so basically if you did get a wrong 1 then it would be more of a case of modifying the exhaust then? i was just concerned that the manifold would not fit the block after reading this. but as far as i can tell if your going down the big turbo route which is either t3 or t4 fittment then their is going to be modification required anyway. obviously you dont wanna buy a manifold designd for a ko3s when your going bt.

yes its only the earlier audi a4 and other 1.8t models befor 99 that where longitudinal.
all seats and vw and skodas are transverse as far as i have found out.

No. as it then starts interfering with the brake servo etc etc.

Thanks for the valid input mate, what if the manifold was designed to fit a longitudinal engine but the mount point of the turbo was dead on centre or more towards centre then runner 1-2 ?
