Sooo my day started nice and early at about 10 when my friend who is pretty darn good with cars turned up at my house!
I showed him the kit, and he'd never fit one before but after telling him about a garage asking for 120 for fitting we were determined to do it!
We jacked the car up and placed it on stands.... We began by first removing the alloys...
Now we got under the car and each proceeded with a lower arm.
We decided the best plan of action was to remove the entire arm from the car so we removed the ball joints aswell as the Walk replacement (not sure of actual name) and of course the bushing.
Although this sounds easy to do, the ball joint removal was one of the hardest things we ever did! Due to it being a 56 plate a lot of the car parts are set in their ways.... haha! After removing them we noticed that the seal had gone on both of them...so a quick call to my local car part supplier (euro fit) i got them at a friggin steal! 9 quid per ball joint!
NOW, from here we went to our local garage who had a gas axe..... we burnt the old bushing out with the help of the gas axe and a hammer/chisel! this took about 30 minutes for both arms! I bought the lads at the garage a 6 pack of stella as a thank you!
We placed the new W0503's into their new homes with plenty of grease supplied from whiteline! We used a work bench vice to get a snug fit.
NOW, for the fun/nightmare of refitting the entire lower arm. With new ball joints fitted and w0503's in place we proceeded to refit them in their respective place. Getting the bushings to sit in the housing proved to be quite a challenge which took us a good 40 minutes ( due to being on jack stands, probably an easy job if on a ramp)
Fitting the Walk was a piece of piss. The longest/hardest bit was getting the dam things to line up so we could re-bolt, this also took us a good 40- 60 minutes. Finally wheels back on, i took her for a spin up to the wheel alignment place (taking the long route to let them bed in....25 miles later) We arrived only to find they shut at 4.30. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT TO THE DAY!
Garage Quote.....120 with tracking
My cost ..... Stella cans = 4.80
2 ball joints = 18 (not strictly necessary for most)
Tracking = 25
30 quid thank you to my mate
40 QUID SAVING!
(POTENTIALLY 58)
