Hi people

Posted once before when considering a Cupra, didn't take the plunge in the end and stuck with my CW Type R.... anyway now I'm thinking of getting a Diesel for power throughout the range and importantly economy, but still want something fast so the Leon tdi is definitely on the radar.

Probably between a BMW 120d/123d but think they could be a bit too small for me, a golf TDI 170 but they seem very expensive, and the Leon, which I could pick up a newish one for 16k.

I'd want to get it mapped (up to 210 bhp) and wondered what it turns the car into, how much it costs etc? Stats wise what does the 0-60 change to, I know this may not be a good benchmark but for me being an engine noob its all I relate to. Will the mpg worsen or can the map improve that too? After the remap it should have more bhp than the type r and a load more torque so should be faster yes?

I did read something after doing a search someone was mentioning they can be a bit heavy throwing round corners, any extra info gladly appreciated. Are they comfortable in the back for 3? or 1 with 2 child seats?

Regards

Jonny

Ive had my Fr+ 170 about a month now and i love it. For the money i dont think theres many cars that can come close. The space inside is very good, can fit a full car of squaddies in no porblem and also i put my mountain bike in with back seats down.

My mate has just got a brand new BMW 118 and i would have the leon over it any day, it just seems a bit cheap inside for the money he spent on it.

I havent had mine remapped but ive heard it should improve your mpg but im not certain on that.

thanks.... supposedly you get 50ish mpg right? If you have heavy foot and push the car often will it drop dramatically? For some reason I think I'm going to get 50mpg regardless of how I drive or am I being naive?

buy one great car I'm getting 50+ to the gallon now and that's with a stage 1 map from Will at P-Torque figures in my sig below
Pulls hard through all the gears should have come out the factory like that :)

50+ even when you push it?

no 50 average mostly motorway and A road but I do push it up the the speed limit of the road
so mixed some driving hard some just cruising

i'll do mostly short runs, 15 miles max, mix of evenings out and school runs, I'm not going to be driving like the Stig all the time but hoping to get an average of 50 and still, I'll be disappointed if I didn't as really as love my current car and want the change justified by the big increase in mpg.

With the sort of driving you are going to be doing you need to make sure you buy a 2009 facelifted Leon FR with a CR engine. The older PD engine will just never cope with those short runs. The DPF will be clogged in no time. As far as I know there are no reported DPF clogging problems with the CR engine.

ah i wondered what the cr bit meant on some ads... 10 plate or newer so should be okay.

yes 2010 on will be fine CR is common Rail this is the new type of injection system this engine was designed to have the DPF whereas the older PD engine just had it bolted on afterwards due to stricter emission laws that were introduced hence many PD engines suffering with DPF issues and not just Seats

Mine's a 2010 CR FR 170, had it 3 weeks and I'm in love! The spec of the car is awesome for the price you pay, it moves like sh1t off a shovel, and sticks to the road like sh1t to a blanket! haha. Oh and it looks so much better than a 1 series ;)
I did a 35 mile (mostly motorway) trip the other night and got 51.8mpg overall, mostly sticking in cruise at 65/70.
Mines low miles, but I've read your mpg improves as your miles increase with a diesel, not sure if this is right.
Anyway, if you're looking at a Leon TDi...you won't look back! :)

i went to buy a petrol, end up getting diesel, never looked back

saves me 10-15 quid a week minimum on fuel, do 13-14 miles each way to work 90% motorway roads

smooth fast and economical in 1 is great combination

Does this explain why my 57 plate has needed 3 re-gens since November last year?
Two re-gens in 3 weeks (880 miles apart), even after two days of 250 miles per day has really hacked me off. Is there any advice anyone can help me with - I'm close to ringing we buy any car dot con

My Leon fr had same regen problem with dpf , first 2 time was under warrantee , 3rd time I got a miltech dpf removal pipe and straight to get car remapped, car is now sitting at 220 bhp 362 torque for over 18 months now and never gave me any problems since, and I get 50+ extra mile per fill off tank too. ( on a side note my Leon suppose my father in his mk2 rs focus when he couldn't overtake me too 120 mph )
