My 54plate 2005 cupra has done 72000 miles and has rust on both arches above the wheel. Was going to take the car to Seat until some **** dinged the wing meaning I'd need to get to a body shop regardless. This certainly sounds like a bad batch, though

I saw a 55 plate mk5 golf the other day in silver around the corner from my house and both front wings had really bad rust right around I was pretty surprised especially as there was like a 1999 T Reg next to it with no rust at all. Thought the golf wouldnt rue like that!

Iv spotted what looks like the start of abit of rust on my front drivers side wheel arch. I did just pop out and take a picture but you cant tell in the picture that there anything there (using camera off phone). I did have some work done on that wheel arch about 18months ago so dont know if that got anything to do with it.

iv got a 05 cupra TDi

Sorry to bump this thread...

Mine's doing the same (84K miles on '54 plate). Took it to a dealer a few weeks back and SEAT wouldn't do it under warranty, but it was submitted again as a good will gesture, which again was refused.

Did anyone actually get anywhere with this? [:@]

My 2000MY Passat is still okay, but my wife's 2003MY Polo is rusting away, and has had rear wing bubbles for about 4 years - and not due to any stone damage. I've put it down to waterbased paints being used, maybe the Spaniards are no good at painting cars - Fabias of that age still look okay - well they seem to do!

Unfortunately my camera's somewhere else, so I've had to make do with the iPhone;

Now, I'm not aware of anyone from here getting anywhere with this worthless warranty and by the looks of things on this thread it's a common problem with the arch. I can't imagine I'll get anywhere with my constant moaning, but I've e-mailed Seat and they've got plenty of time to reply because I'm away for 2 weeks from Sunday (hence why I've e-mailed them because I can't harass them on the phone!) so we'll see what happens. If you can prove the car hasnt had any paint work done then it should be coverd. The emphisis is on SEAT proving that it has. If it hasnt and has standard wheels, suspension etc. Ie nothing that could be atributed to damaging the paint then it should be under warranty.

Aimez is one person I know who got hers done and that isnt even a standard car. So its worth pushing it further. Im sure others have managed as well.

If its a front wing btw I would just replace it, I did with mine and the new panel is now rusting. Mainly due to the wheel catching the arch liner sometimes and rubbing the paint.

This is what I hate about the warranty; how do you prove something hasn't been painted? Whilst I understand what they're saying in the T&C's, it's effectively your word against their judgement. The dealer I took it to did measure the paint thickness and confirmed it hadn't been painted (quite honest), but Seat still declined. I asked the dealer where do I go from here because obviously I don't agree and he said there's a independent company that will inspect it for you, but it costs £150!! I'm pretty sure I cold get the new arch done for that.

I know I'll have to get it done myself, but I think it's just the principle.

my 2003 tdi sport has the same problem on the r/h wing/wheel arch.no stone chip damage, just blistered up through the paint.Think talking to seat will be a waste of time judging by the incompetence i've encountered at my local dealer before!

I presume it looks relatively the same as mine?

I had a reply from Seat today saying that my case has been forwarded to one of their customer relation managers, so we'll see what she has to say.

There seems to be a fair few people with exactly the same problem, which I did mention in my initial e-mail. I'm pretty sure it won't get anywhere but there's no harm in trying.

Both my rear archs rusted up but that was due to rubbing and havin 20mm spacers on :) i know a bodyshop so got it done on the cheap

My Cupra (56 plate) so the facelift version has the rust bubbles on the front arches in the middle.
Not happy at all, so will call up SEAT this week to see what they have to say. Failing that I will get a quote on how much to get sorted. The car is completely standard too.

Corrosion warranty only covers corrosion from the inside out. If you have rust appearing its 9 out of 10 times due to a previous crap respray/repair or stone or chip damage.

My FR has 64k on the clock and it is booked in wednesday for rust treatment to both side b pillars. I post a post up a while back with the pics. When trying to get this '12 year' policy out of them they claimed the rust was 'mechanical damage' and therefore were not covering it. I did complain to hq and ended up getting £100 discount. Still costing me £190 though! Now there is bubbling along both rear arches which i will mention to them but again 'mechanical damage' will be the excuse i bet. Dont actually know what the rust policy covers...?

How about collating all the info from members on here and approaching Seat on-mass? Seems to be cars of the same age and mileage with the same problem which Seat are over-looking. If the info is presented together then they may start to look at it seriously rather than rejecting individuals.

Photos, year of registration, mileage and whether it's already been looked at for a warranty claim should do to start it off.

Just an idea...

Proberly the underneath I bet haha

i agree with the mass petition thing. seat would defo get the picture with alot of people rather than the individual.

i got my pillars done, amazing job making it look brand new but not the point really. When speaking with the boy when i picked my car up he said theres a good chance the rust of the arches would get covered by the warranty. I would need to book an appointment with the 'warranty specialist' so i will be doing that in the next couple of weeks hopefully. Will keep everyone updated.
