Guys,

The hot weather arrives and what happens, the air con's mullerred!

So I've been and had it re-gassed which hasn't made any difference and had a look through the forum and it looks like it's going to be either the pressure switch (hopefully) or the compressor, which will be a massive wounder!

So any indicators will be very much appreciated.

The car car is an 06 FR Tfsi. If I press the econ button, I do see and hear the revs dip and vice versa if it's pressed again to de-activate, does this help diagnose?

Thanks in advance.

Mines doing similar blowing out warm air, i have it booked in for a re-gas on Friday, will let you know it if works

Just to sort out really easy things, remove the climate control unit and check if all connectors are in the right place (clip will hold it but when the clip is loose the connector will go out easily)

The reason i say this, when i did my FL conversion (new climate control panel) I drove a few days without the clips locked on the connectors and they did go out alot. The result is your described problem, aircon wont work anymore on whatever temp you set it, and it only blows out REALLY hot air.

Good luck anyway mate..

If the revs drop sounds like it may be a faulty compressor?

When mine didnt work at all they replaced the pressure switch. It then worked temporarory. Sometimes cold, often hot. It went back in and the compressor was changed, it now works perfectly! Luckily mine was under warranty.

Hope it doesnt cost too much!

these have a clutchless compressor that constantly drives.
As they get old the valve inside dies locking the compressor so no gas circulation but will still rotate due to sheer piece in shaft.
Does your climate panel flash at all, as thats warning you it need gas

Get them to check the gas levels first, I paid for them to re gas and its money down the drain. I think kwikfit will check without you having to pay (I wish I had known this yesterday!).

There's no way to check gas levels (how much gas), you can only check for pressure to indicate that there is some gas in the system. It can still run with relatively little gas as there will be sufficient pressure to engage the system, but not enough to give any real cooling. An average car will lose about 10-15% of it's gas per year.

The best thing to do if it doesn't cool, is as suggested, to go to Kwik-Fit, assuming they still do the "at least 10% better cooling, or no charge" deal; it won't cost you anything but your time if it doesn't work.

Well, got mine back yesterday but hasnt been fixed as need a new 'high' pressure valve of some sort and they are on back order from Spain! So i will need to wait up to 10 days for it to arrive, including re-gas quoted £170 inc fitting.

Had same issue on mine, but cost me £111.00 all in. Part number for the switch is 1K0 959126D. Checked on ebay, there approx £35. Mine was ordered through local VW dealer, took two days to get it.
