Centre console storage

On the pre-facelift Leon Mk2 - did they always have the CD storage section at the back of the centre console (between the seats)?

I'm thinking of changing my console and don't really need the CD storage.
I see from the diagram in an earlier post (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=327384) that this is just a snap-in fit.
I would prefer a deeper plain storage box if it were available.

apologies for resurrecting an ancient thread.

Was this the only option from the factory (the cd storage section) or was there something else you could replace this with, something more useful?

Or has anyone carried out modifications to the cd storage section at all

Just wondering really, as the cd holder is not much use to me...

Any help much appreciaed.

Cheers,
Mikey

The only item I'm aware of is the official SEAT Centre armrest?

I know it covers the centre console/cup holders, plus providing additional storage once you open the hinged "lid" - not sure if its seated all the way back, where it also covers the CD holder space though.

ah OK, i don't have the arm rest at the moment. That's maybe something I will have to purchase.

Can anyone with the SEAT OEM armrest confirm whether this covers up the CD storage part of the centre console for me?

If you dont want to spend the £150 odd pounds for the original SEAT one, you could always go for an EBay alternative. Look quite stylish, but just not that factory look.

Every time I visit the dealer and I ask about the Centre Armrest, then they remind me of the price, and I put it off until the next visit. :)

The armrest doesn't go back or forward either, it's fixed in place which is a shame, but as joostdeblok said, it completely clears the CD storage bit at the back.

£150 does seem quite steep, but by all accounts that i have read on these forums it seems to be worth it.

Is there any way in putting in a small DVD and screen in this console which can be hidden away when not in use? I'm sure a simple portable player will be sufficient?

Dont think a portible DVD play would fit, unliss it was the dimentions of a DVD case and that will be tiny.

Why not do an under dash or seat DVD player with headrest screens.

I don't fancy cutting into the back of my Cupra seats to put the screens in...would be a right nightmare!

Might just use the storage for something else as it's a waste of space at the moment!

I was thinking of cutting a bit of wood that would fit into the cd holder bit and cut a hole in the wood to give me a cup holder. I would wrap the wood in carbon fibre to make it look better. Just haven't got round to doing it yet. Lol
